‘Pluribus’ Book ‘Wycaro’ by Carol Sturka: How to read

Are you a big fan of mindless nonsense?

Well, you’re in luck. An excerpt from the fictional ‘Pluribus’ book ‘Bloodsong of Wycaro’, the latest novel in Carol Sturka’s ‘Winds of Wycaro’ romance series, is now available to read on Apple Books. (Apple TV produces and distributes Vince Gilligan’s new sci-fi drama.) Download the eleven-page chapter here.

In the first episode of “Pluribus,” Carol (played by Rhea Seehorn) reads an excerpt from “Bloodsong of Wycaro” during a book signing at a Barnes and Noble. Many of her fans confront her asking why Raban, the heartthrob from the series, is not on the cover. These concerns are addressed in a ‘Letter from the Author’, in which Carol also writes about her love for the story of Sisyphus. In “Pluribus,” Carol loathes her best-selling work (and the fans who devour every page).

The description of the novel, the fourth book in the ‘Wycaro’ series, reads: “Sail with Lucasia, captain of the dune ship Mercator, as she traverses the amaranthic sands of Wycaro in search of a cure for the treacherous disease that has taken down her crew. As Lucasia navigates a treacherous storm, she is haunted by memories of Raban, the villain who stole her heart before she walked the plank. Seething with passions that cry out for release, she is haunted by memories of Raban, the villain who stole her heart before she walked the plank. She soon discovers that the only thing worse than finding yourself alone in the dark… is discovering that you are not alone.’

Sound familiar? ‘Pluribus’ follows Carol after an earth-shattering event known as ‘The Joining’, when all but twelve people on the planet are suddenly taken over by a mind virus that turns them into friendly, omniscient entities sharing one collective consciousness. Described as “the most miserable person on earth,” Carol must fight for her individuality while the rest of the world tries to figure out how to “fix” her.

Apple pulled a similar stunt earlier this year by releasing Severance’s self-help book, “The You You Are,” on Apple Books. The audiobook is narrated by actor Michael Chernus, who plays Ricken Hale in the workplace thriller.

“Pluribus” debuted on November 7 and the first three episodes are now available to stream on Apple TV. The show marks Gilligan’s first project after ‘Better Call Saul,’ which ended in 2022. “I wouldn’t say there was pressure, but there was a certain level of anticipation. A certain level of, ‘What’s next in the world of ‘Breaking Bad?'” Gilligan shared. Variety in an interview with Seehorn.

“We live in a world of IP, where the safest thing to do is to reboot something that has an audience. I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn’t a one-trick pony,” says Gilligan. “It’s harder than ever to get something made that isn’t based on a previous movie, comic book or video game. Every generation deserves its own stories, instead of just the stories of their grandparents.”
