‘Pissed-Off’ Hosts Hate Trump and Men

SPOILER ALERT: This post contains mild spoilers from “Landman” Season 2, Episode 5, “The Pirate Dinner,” which premiered Sunday, December 14 on Paramount+.
There was no love shown for the daytime talk show “The View” during the latest episode of the Paramount+ drama “Landman.”
In the episode, Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) encourages his father, TL (Sam Elliott), to pass the time at home by watching a TV show and suggests “The View.” When TL admits he doesn’t know what that is, Tommy explains it as, “A bunch of pissed off millionaires whining about how much they hate millionaires and Trump and men and you and me and everyone else they worry about. It’s pretty funny.”
TL responds, “Doesn’t sound funny.”
Tommy responds, “Well, it’s not a joke, it’s like ‘fart in church’ funny, you know what I mean?”
TL replies, “That doesn’t sound funny either.”
Tommy then clarifies, “Well, it depends on how close you are to the fart.”
Sheridan, who co-created the series and has sole writing credit on all episodes in seasons 1 and 2, often uses Tommy to voice his opinions on a litany of topics ranging from alternative wind energy to country radio DJs. That said, actual pop culture is very rarely discussed on the show, so it was surprising to hear “The View” brought up as a point of mockery.
Thornton was last seen on “The View” in 2024 for a lively and charming visit to promote the series premiere of “Landman.” Watch the clip below.
