The producers Guild of America Awards are underway during a Jam-Packed Awards weekend in LA that will certainly offer some clarity for the upcoming Oscars race.
The PGA Awards are generally considered as a strong predictor for the Academy Awards, in particular in the Best Picture category. The PGA followed the example when the Academy expanded its attitude of five to 10 nominees in 2009. Since then, the nominations of the guild have been a good indicator of Oscar success, with eight out of 10 PGA nominees that are translated on average into NODS at the Academy Awards.
That is also true this year: eight of the ten film mominees also earned the best photo Oscar (“Anora”, “The Brutalist”, “A Complete Unknown”, “Conclave”, “Dune: Part Two”, “Emilia Pérez , “” The substance “a” bad “). PGA nominees “A Real Pain” and “5 September” missed recognition in the category at the Oscars, with “I’m Still here” and “Nickel Boys” that hook the remaining two slots.
In the PGA Awards ceremony on Saturday, Searchlight Pictures was the only studio that scored two noms this year, with “a real pain” and “a completely unknown” both who made the list.
Destroying forest fires in South California have encouraged both the PGA and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to expand voting deadlines last month, with the PGA that postponed its nominations from January 10 to January 13, and the Oscars that Their nomination announcement shifted from January 17 to January 23.
