‘Perfect Couple’ premiere on the red carpet, overrun by mosquitoes
‘The Perfect Couple’ could be renamed ‘Attack of the Gnats’.
Swarms of flying insects invaded Netflix’s red carpet premiere of “The Perfect Couple” at the streamer’s Egyptian Theater Hollywood on Wednesday night.
As if the hot and sticky weather wasn’t bad enough, the cast – including Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber and Meghann Fahy – suddenly found themselves swatting mosquitoes in the carpet for about an hour.
“I think someone just bit me,” Schreiber said, punching him in the neck.
Note several bugs here Variety reporter’s shirt, Fahy said, “There’s a bug on you.” When she was shown mosquitoes crawling across the light blue step-and-repeat, Fahy groaned, “Ewww! I don’t like that. I don’t like that kind of thing…We have to leave LA’
Later, as he swatted the creatures away, Fahy said, “It’s so out of control. We’re going to swallow one.”
The annoying insects also flew around the lamps behind the carpet. “It’s the lights,” said a Netflix employee. “They are attracted to the lights.”
It seems even the mosquitoes in Hollywood want their time in the spotlight.
The buggy situation was reminiscent of a cockroach that landed on the carpet at the 2023 Met Gala in New York City. Video crews and photographers captured the cockroach crawling across the carpet before being unceremoniously stepped on by someone standing at the museum’s front door.
In The Perfect Couple, based on the novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, Kidman plays the role of a bestselling author and matriarch of a mega-rich family in New York City. Her seemingly perfect brood begins to unravel when, just hours before she was to host her son’s wedding at their Nantucket estate, someone is found dead on their property.
The six-episode series, which also stars Schreiber, Fahy, Eve Hewson, Jack Reynor, Dakota Fanning, Billy Howle, Ishaan Khattar, Sam Nivola, Mia Isaac, Donna Lynne Champlin, Michael Beach and Isabelle Adjani, will stream from September on Netflix. 5.
