‘Parasite’ Studio CJ Enm, Japanese TBS team for game show ‘Mugen Loop’

CJ Enm, the Korean powerhouse behind the Oscar-winning “Parasite” and Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) have been set to premiere their first co-produced unwritten series “Mugen Loop” (“Infinite Loop”). CJ perm is present at the current Hong Kong Filmart.

The High Concept Game Show places six participants, including Koko from K-Pop Girl Group Izna, in a claustrophobic hexagonal environment with endlessly connected, identical rooms. Players are confronted with increasingly difficult challenges to collect unlimited prize money, but failure means elimination through group votes. The psychological warfare increases as the participants not only the challenges, but with only one ultimate winner claims that the entire cash prize claims.

“As more Korean non-written shows are well received worldwide, it has become crucial to discover distinctive but understandable ideas that promote the interests of viewers,” said Jangho SEO, Executive VP of the Content Business Division at CJ ETM. “” Mugen Loop “is a big yet clear show that will present a clear answer to those challenges.”

The format stemmed from the strategic partnership that was established between companies in 2021.

According to Jun Fukai, director of global sales and development at TBS Holdings, the project was born from discussions between top makers from both networks, where CJ ENM yielded the first concept, while TBS was the creative vision.

“Korean producers made countless visits to Japan, who are involved in extensive creative meetings to refine every detail, so that this groundbreaking show eventually comes to life,” Fukai said. “Although ‘Mugen Loop’ is first broadcast in Japan, we are convinced that the audience is fascinated worldwide by its unique attraction.”

Seungyong took, executive VP of the non-written division at CJ andM, said that the show “could be the next ‘genius game’, while the production of the unique combination of ‘original ideas of makers with different backgrounds’ results in ‘a never-considered concept’.

“Mugen Loop” will premiere on March 24.
