One of the most coveted collective objects in Hollywood is on the open market … an Oscar statue from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
The Oscar for the best cinematography of the 1930 Academy Awards has ended up RR -Auction … and this Oscar goes to the highest bidder.
The golden statue was presented Clyde de Vinna For his work on the film ‘White Shadows in the South Seas’ from 1928.
The film, in the lead role Monte Blue And Raquel TorresWas groundbreaking … It was MGM’s first sound film – so that theater visitors could hear the MGM Lion Roar for the first time – and it was recorded on location in Tahiti.
It is super rare to see Oscars on the market … The Academy made a rule in 1951 to prevent them from selling their statuettes without first returning them to the Academy for $ 1 … but it only applies to images awarded after 1950, so this Oscar gets a pass.
This Oscar was awarded during the second annual Academy Awards … held in the Swanky Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on April 3, 1930 … the first ceremony that is broadcast on radio as a public event.
The plaque of the price is engraved with information about the price … The basis is: “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences First Award 1929.”
There is a gold disk at the bottom of the prize that says … “Ampas, 1929 Academy First Award to Clyde de Vinna for distinctive performance in the cinematography of white shadows of the South Sea.”
RR auction tells us that the seller is a private collector who wants to remain anonymous … Bids now exceed $ 70,000 and the auction house estimates that the winning bid goes beyond $ 150,000.
Bid ends on April 9.
