OpenAI’s Sora soars to No. 3 on the US App Store

The Sora app from OpenAi for AI videos is a viral hit, even though it is only inviting and limited to users in the US and Canada at the launch. On the first day Sora saw 56,000 downloads and is now arranged as the number 3 best overall app in the American App Store, according to new data from App Intelligence Provider App figures.
The company estimates that the iOS app from Sora achieved a total of 164,000 installations during the first two days, September 30 and October 1.
The day-one figure places the debut of Sora prior to the performance of other large AI-app launchings, including Claude van Anthropic and the Microsoft Copilot, and puts it on the same footing with Xai’s grok launch. In the meantime, OpenAi’s Chatgpt and Google’s Gemini iOS apps had slightly stronger launches, where each reached at least 80,000 downloads on the first day.
Since Sora is still alone, this may not be the fairest comparison, we will admit. It is possible that the new video app could even have been attracted more Installs if it were open to all users.
Despite this limitation, it is a fairly strong show for the new release, which indicates the demand for AI-VideoTools in the hands of consumers in more social network-like experience. (This is much to the annoyance of some at OpenAI, who want the company to concentrate on solving more difficult problems that benefit humanity. But who says that humanity does not benefit from Deepfakes of the CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman who asks: “Are my piggies enjoying their sloping?”)
In order to compare Sora’s early success with other AI apps, App figures had to perform an analysis that only looked at the American and Canadian downloads of the other AI apps. That is because the different AI apps on the market have followed different launch strategies. Chatgpt, for example, was initially launched on iOS and at that time it limited himself to American users, while Grok limited the release of only iOS to the US, Australia and India. In the meantime, Anthropic did not indicate that there were geographical limitations when it first brought his Claude app to iOS last year.
For more of a comparison of Appels-to-Apples, App figures have kicked the songs to concentrate only on the American downloads of each app, plus that had been available at the launch there in Canada.
