OpenAI’s next big bet won’t be a wearable: report
OpenAi pushed generative AI into public consciousness. Now it could develop a very different kind of AI device.
By one WSJ reportOpenAi CEO Sam Altman told employees on Wednesday that the next major product of the company will not be portable. Instead, it is a compact, screenless device, fully aware of the environment of the user. Small enough to sit on a desk or fit in a bag, Altman described it as a “third core device” next to a MacBook Pro and iPhone, and an “AI Companion” integrated into daily life.
The Preview followed the announcement of OpenAI that the IO will acquire, a startup that was founded last year by former Apple designer Jony Ive, in a share deal of $ 6.5 billion. IVE will take on an important creative and design prol at OpenAI.
Altman reportedly said employees that the acquisition could ultimately add $ 1 trillion to market value to the company, because it creates a new category of devices, unlike the handheldWearables or glasses that have rolled out other outfits.
