NY Giants release update on Cam Skattebo’s gruesome injury, his future

UPDATE — 10/27/25, 9:35 AM ET: The New York Giants have issued an update on rookie running back Cam Skattbo after suffering a scary injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The team announced that Skattebo, 23, underwent surgery for a dislocated ankle at a local hospital in the Philadelphia area on Sunday, October 26. The injury occurred earlier in the day when the Giants and Eagles faced off at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Skattebo’s surgery means the Giants star is done for the season.
“If everything is good and clean and the surgery went as well as everyone thinks, he should be back next year with no problems,” said NFL Insider. Ian Rapoport said on Monday, October 27. “It is a horrific injury, but the recovery is actually not too bad.”
Skattebo, who was in the middle of a star season, broke his silence about the injury on Monday morning.
The running back reposted a video via Instagram of his Giants teammates discussing the impact of Skattebo’s injury after the game with the caption: “My boys like tall boys ❤️.”

New York Giants rookie and breakout star Cam Skattbo was carted off the field after suffering a serious ankle injury during the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, October 26.
The rookie attempted to catch a pass on 2nd down and 16 play but became confused while being tackled. As a result, his ankle became stuck between the field and Zack Baunthe Eagles linebacker who made the tackle.
While 23-year-old Skattebo sat on the field after the game, teammates immediately called for medical attention. His right ankle was out of place, turned all the way to the right.
The medical cart came onto the field as Skattebo’s ankle was put in an air cushion and he was taken off the field. Teammates greeted Skattebo as he was driven off the field and he was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the match.
Skattebo waved to the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, earning him a standing ovation, as he was escorted from the field for immediate medical care.
According to ESPN Adam SchefterSchattebo suffered a dislocated ankle and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
The extent of his injury has yet to be determined.
“I feel absolutely terrible for the young man,” the Giants head coach said Brian Daboll told reporters after the game. “Obviously I saw it. It looked bad. You feel for everyone on your team who goes down and has a really bad injury. And I feel it, and I know the players feel the same way about Skat.”
Skattebo’s teammates showed him support as he received medical attention on the field, although some had to turn away from the horrific injury.

Immediately after the match was stopped, as soon as Dart realized the extent of the injury, he turned around, shouted expletives and took a knee out of respect for his teammate.
“I was devastated,” Dart told reporters after the game. “That’s my boy. To see him go down and react to what happened, it just sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”
As Skattebo was being carted away, Dart made sure to give his teammate one of their signature headbutts that the two regularly do in celebration.
“I know [Dart] “I’m close with Skat,” Daboll said. “I know it’s tough for everyone involved to see Skat go through this and the injury he suffered.
He added: “It is a contact sport and unfortunately injuries do happen.”
Skattebo and Dart have been two of the most electric rookies in the league as of late. Despite a 2-6 start to the season, the two have shown fire together on the field since both taking over starting roles midway through the season.
Skattebo in particular has been a lightning rod on a team that hasn’t had much to cheer about this season. In addition to his seven touchdowns this year, Skattebo provides an off-field energy that has taken over the team and the league as a whole.
He scored a touchdown earlier in the game before his injury, on an 18-yard pass from Dart.
He racked up 398 rushing yards and 189 receiving yards in his rookie season so far.
The Eagles defeated the Giants 38-20.
