Netflix partners with Raj & DK for action-fantasy show ‘Rakt Bramhand’
Netflix India has unveiled a new collaboration with creators Raj & DK for its first action-fantasy series, “Rakt Bramhand – The Bloody Kingdom.” This project follows their recent successful collaboration with the ‘Guns & Gulaabs’ series.
The duo will be working with director Rahi Anil Barve and writer Sita R. Menon under their production company D2R Films. The series features action scenes and visual effects in a fictional kingdom setting. Filming will begin soon.
Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, known professionally as Raj & DK, have established themselves as innovative filmmakers in the Indian entertainment industry. The duo was recognized for their work on films such as ’99’, ‘Shor in the City’ and ‘Go Goa Gone’. They have also found success in the streaming world with Prime Video series like ‘The Family Man’ and ‘Farzi’. The duo formed a multi-year creative partnership with Netflix in 2022.
Barve made his feature film debut with the critically acclaimed ‘Tumbbad’ in 2018. The historical folk-horror film earned praise for its visual storytelling and unique narrative approach. “Tumbbad” premiered in Venice, opening the Critics’ Week section. The film was also screened at Fantastic Fest, Busan and the BFI London Film Festival as part of an amazing global festival.
Menon, a long-time collaborator of Raj & DK, has worked with the duo on several projects as a writer. Her credits include contributions to the series “The Family Man” and other productions under the D2R Films banner.
Raj & DK said: “This is uncharted territory, which makes it all the more exciting for us. Our goal is to develop a fictional world that is both original and reminiscent of the fantastic stories we heard in childhood. We are having a great time working with the very talented Rahi and our very versatile partner Sita to bring this unique vision to life. The collaboration with Netflix has been excellent and we have their enthusiastic support to support the unconventional vision for ‘Rakt Bramhand’.”
Monika Shergill, VP, content, Netflix India added, “After the tremendous success of the genre mash-up ‘Guns & Gulaabs’, we are happy to collaborate with the masterful duo Raj & DK for another defining series. ‘Rakt Bramhand – The Bloody Kingdom’ will be Netflix India’s first-ever mega action-fantasy series and will redefine the genre by combining large-scale action with a thrilling storyline. With creative geniuses like Raj & DK, and the very talented Rahi Anil Barve leading the project, we are eager to bring this epic adventure to life and entertain audiences everywhere.”
