It’s never easy for fans to say an unexpected goodbye to their favorite characters – and 2024 has seen an influx of shocking departures from our TV screens.
Viewers learned that in January Josh Stewart would reprise his role as William LaMontagne Jr. not reinterpret Criminal Minds: Evolution. Stewart cast JJ’s role (AJ Cook) spouse to life on the OG Criminal minds show before you come to the revival.
“[S]Adly, my days of watching Will LaMontagne Jr. played his over,” Stewart wrote via X in response to a question about his future on the show. “You guys have been the absolute best.”
Criminal mindswhich aired from 2005 to 2020, followed a group of profilers working for the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit on the hunt for serial killers. Over the years, the drama has had several surprising endings, including Mandy Patinkin, Thomas Gibson And Lola Glaudini. The revival brought back original actors from the series Joe Mantegna, Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez And Paget Brewster.
A month after Stewart’s announcement, NBC made the announcement Sam Waterston resigned his role as District Attorney Jack McCoy Law and order.
“The time has come for me to move on and take Jack McCoy with me. There is sadness in the departure, but I am just too curious about what’s next,” Waterston said in a February statement. “An actor doesn’t want to make himself feel too comfortable. I am more grateful to you than I can say. The enduring and astonishing longevity of Law & Order, along with its astonishing comeback, is all thanks to you and to Dick Wolf, but because of whose vision, patience, perseverance and unique combination of creative and business talents, none of this would have happened . I feel very blessed. I hope to see you all on the other side.
