‘Monsters’ Ster Cooper Koch says he recently spoke with Erik Menendez

Cooper Koch, who played as Erik Menendez in “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”, opened about his conversation with his real counterpart after a judge in Los Angeles recently reduced the lifelong punishments of the brothers Mendez.

“I am so grateful that that happened,” Koch said about the resentment at a “monsters” FYC event Tuesday. ‘And so too erik [Menendez]I spoke with him yesterday and he is so excited. ‘

Koch continued to say that “the most inspiring” thing he heard from Erik Menendez was his passion for what he is planning to do after he gets out, including working on “a lot of change in the prison system”.

“He becomes an advocate for other people who have LWOP, what life is without a conditional release,” Koch explained. “His life is going to surround the prison system, and I just think that’s so beautiful.”

Koch shared that Erik Menendez hopes that if he and his brother will be released from prison, people will look back in “10 years and they say:” We really made the right decision. Thank goodness we have left them in. ”

The statement gives Erik and Lyle Hope because they were released from prison after serving 35 years for killing their parents in 1989.

Judge Michael Jesic, La County Superior Court, moved to reduce the original life sentences of the Menendez brothers without conditional release of up to 50 years. Because they were younger than 26 years at the time of their crime, they now have a chance of conditional release under the youthful perpetrator law of California. However, the brothers still have to receive the kink from the State Parole board before being released.

The public interest in the case increased after the release of Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters” series about the murder and the process in September 2024.

Officer of Justice George Gascón emerged for reducing their penalties to 50 years to life in October. However, he lost re -election to Nathan Hochman, who has the office’s request to reduce the convictions.

Gascón, a reformer of criminal law, discovered that the brothers were rehabilitated after 35 years behind bars. The Menendez family argued that new proof supports the claim that the brothers have been sexually abused by their father and that the attitude on abuse has evolved over the past three decades.

Hochman said that the brothers did not recognize that their claim of self -defense was ‘manufactured’, and therefore did not take responsibility for the crimes.

Koch visited the brothers in prison at Kim Kardashian in September. “We just looked at each other and immediately hugged,” said the actor about Erik said shortly after that visit. “He was so friendly. Lyle must both hug and just be in their presence. They are such outstanding individuals. They have done so much work in their prison. Erik gives meditation and speech classes, and they do this Greenspace project to improve the prison site. It was just great.”

Koch also said earlier that for the first time he spoke with Erik the night before “Monsters” premiered on Netflix.
