‘Modernist Master’ RM Schindler’s Famous Druckman Residence Returns to the LA Market with Significant Price Reductions

A mid-century modern four-bedroom landmark designed by a famous architect R. M. Schindler has returned to the market once again – the third time in less than a year that the legendary Los Angeles home has gone up for sale.

The beautifully maintained home is known as the Druckman Residence and was originally listed in February 2025 for $3.3 million. However, in the months since, that price has been repeatedly reduced, with the last listing, posted on January 30, offering a drastically reduced asking price of $2.49 million.

Built in 1941, the 1,662-square-foot house was commissioned by Dr. Jacob S. Druckman and his wife, artist Margaretha Druckmanwho worked closely with the ‘modernist master’ to create what is now a true piece of LA history.

“It was an original collaboration with Schindler and the Druckmans and they chose this site that is very rich in Hollywood history,” said Michael Maguirewho is listing the property together with fellow Compass agents Victoria Massengale And Daria Greenbaum.

“The property is very close to Mulholland Drive and is highly integrated with panoramic views of both green space and nature.”

According to records, the sellers have only owned the legendary abode for two years after purchasing it for $2.35 million in January 2024.

It is said to be one of two Druckman-built properties in the area, with the other being a medical office in Beverly Hills.

Located in the exclusive enclave known as Outpost Estates in Hollywood Hills, the luxurious time capsule features a striking asymmetrical gable roof designed to hide the house from the street.

Maguire said the house was built with scale and ease of living in mind.

“The modernist movement was a new concept of affordable living for the people, providing a better lifestyle and creating a living experience that we had not seen before,” he added.

The canyon views are maximized by oversized clerestory windows designed to flood an abundance of natural light into the split-level floor plan.

“What is remarkable about this house is the placement of the windows and doors,” he noted. “They are perfectly placed to frame the hills and canyons.”

Highlights include a private primary wing designed for added privacy, and a dual indoor-outdoor fireplace in the living room, providing a seamless transition to the outdoor space.

“There have been many thoughtful and careful updates to celebrate the intent of the architecture,” Maguire said. “The sellers have made significant improvements for modern living.”

Beamed ceilings, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, fitted wardrobes and wood clad walls are also found throughout the home.

A retro kitchen has mint green appliances and an original built-in breakfast nook designed by Schindler.

There is also a cozy study room for intimate gatherings with views of the treetops.

“I think it will definitely be a creative or an artist who will be the next manager of this residency,” Maguire said. “Because it is small-scale, people have an idea of what that living experience is like. It has certainly been well preserved over the years.”

All bedrooms were “positioned to maximize natural light and connection to the outdoors.” The primary suite offers gorge views and a newly modernized bathroom, while the other rooms have original built-ins and access to the private rear garden.

Outside, the ‘new terraced landscape’ leads to an oval-shaped, in-ground swimming pool, reportedly designed by Richard Neutra.

“I could imagine someone would want to live here as a primary residence, but I could certainly see it as a second home as well,” he added. “It’s the perfect pied-à-terre format that is quintessentially California and very special.”
