As a reminder, Mistral develops his own large language models. The company’s flagship models, such as Mistral Groot Or are multimodal model Pixtralare available for commercial use via an API or cloud partner, such as Azure Ai Studio, Amazon Bedrock and Google’s Vertex AI. It also releases a number of open weight models under the Apache 2.0 license.
Mistral hopes to position itself as a credible alternative to OpenAI or anthropic. In addition to developing foundation models, the Le -Chat assistant directly competes with Chatgpt, Claude, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.
Mistral finally releases a mobile version of the assistant to better compete for a coveted place on the home screen of your phone. The mobile app has the usual Chatbot interface. You can request the AI model of Mistral and ask follow-up questions in a simple discussion-like interface.
In recent months, Le Chat has evolved to become a competent AI assistant. In November 2024Mistral added support for the search for web with quotes. With this you can also generate images or communicate with free form canvas to edit text or code in a separate window.
More recently, the company has signed a broad deal with the Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency to make results with reliable information management. However, there is no speech mode in Mistral’s mobile app for people trusting speech to ask AI assistants.
With today’s update to Le Chat, Mistral also introduces a pro layer for $ 14.99 per month, or € 14.99 per month in Europe. Although the company no longer describes the exact AI model that it uses under the hood, it says that the pro-plan will be supplied with access to the “highest performing model”, suggesting that free accounts do not have access to the Top-the’s -Line model.
Other benefits are higher limits across the board and the possibility to sign up for sharing your data with Mistral-Het Company brings the pay-or-presents model to AI assistants.
Up to 1,000 words per second
What makes Mistral stand out? The company does not claim that it has better models than the competition. But it claims that, from a product point of view, it can sometimes perform better than its competitors.
For example, Mistral states that Le -Chat runs on “the fastest inference engines on the planet” and it can answer up to 1,000 words per second. In our use it indeed felt faster than using the 4O model of chatgpt.
Mistral also claims that it generates much better images than chatgpt or grock. The reason Mistral performs well in this area is that it depends on the Flux Ultra from Black Forest Labs, one of the leading models for image generation.
These are nice-to-have functions, but one of the most important distinctive factors comes with the enterprise solution from Le Chat. With Mistral you can implement Le -Chat in your area with adapted models and an adapted user interface.
If you work in defense or banking, you may have to be able to use an AI assistant in premise. That is currently not possible with Chatgpt Enterprise or Claude Enterprise. That will help when it comes to the income of the company.
But first let’s see if the Mistral mobile app can convince some AI enthusiasts to try his chatbot. From this writing, chatgpt, deepseek and Google Gemini have the #2, #3 and #6 respectively Most downloaded iPhone apps in the US
