Mindy Kaling Praises Meghan Markle’s Cooking Skills: ‘Blew Me Out of the Water’

The Mindy Project star, 45, showed off Meghan’s cooking skills as the Duchess of Sussex prepares to launch her new Netflix lifestyle series, With love, Meghanlater this month.
The trailer for the new show dropped last week and shows Meghan, 43, rustling up a tasty dish for Kaling and Prince Harry‘s Montecito, California, kitchen.
“I was just on maternity leave and Meghan texted me and said, ‘Hey, do you want to be on my show… come to Montecito and let me cook for you?'” Kaling explained about her guest appearance during a red carpet event interview with Term on Sunday, January 5, Golden Globes. “And I thought, ‘Yes, that sounds perfect. I would love to do that.’”
The comedian said she considers herself a “good cook,” but Meghan “unsurprisingly blew me out of the water.”
“The great thing about her recipes and her presence is that it’s just very accessible,” Kaling continued. “She has a brand new garden, which I could never do, and chickens… they’d all probably die if I tried to take care of chickens. I thought, ‘Oh, this is very accessible.’”
While Meghan’s husband, Harry, 40, was home when Kaling visited, she wasn’t able to sample his cooking.
“I heard he’s actually a pretty good cook,” she said. “He knows his way around a kitchen.”
Meghan’s new lifestyle series, premiering on Wednesday, January 15, “redefines the genre of lifestyle programming” with Meghan at the forefront, “combining practical how-tos and candid conversations with friends,” according to Netflix.
“I’ve always loved taking something very ordinary and elevating it to the next level,” Meghan says in a trailer released on Thursday, January 2. “Surprising people with moments that let them know I was thinking of them.”
Produced by Meghan herself, the former actress will offer “tips and tricks” for living in the upcoming eight-episode series, with guest appearances from Kaling, Harry and Meghan’s former To take costar and friend Abigail Spencer.
“Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlighting how easy it can be to create beauty even in the unexpected,” reads the official logline for the show. “She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, garden and beyond and invite you to do the same.”
With love, Meghan is the second series to be released under Meghan and Harry’s overall deal with Netflix. (Harry’s Polo dropped last month.)
Ahead of the show’s official announcement, a source said We weekly in August 2024 that the series would be “a variant [Meghan] and the joy of life.” The insider noted that she will teach viewers “little things she has learned as a modern hostess.”
