Relations still remain frosty following the couple’s 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they alleged racism within the palace, and their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghanwhich described their battle behind the palace walls.

A royal observer said: “Disapproval of wearing the poppy may seem trivial, but in this context it is huge. Meghan is fully aware that it would upset Harry and be seen as disrespectful in Britain. It’s her way of showing she’s done with royal duties – and she’s not hiding it.”

Still, some Hollywood sources defended her, insisting the omission was “a style choice, not a statement.”

A Los Angeles insider said: “Meghan was focused on making it fit the Bond theme – it was a Hollywood party, not a royal ceremony. There was no intention to shake things up or make a political statement.”

But palace aides believe otherwise.

“She understands exactly what that symbol represents,” the source said. “By letting it out while standing next to Harry, she sent a message louder than words ever could.”
