Meghan Markle hasn’t ‘scraped the surface’ of her suicidal thoughts
In a CBS interview With Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, Markle said there is more to discuss as she opens up to the media about her struggle with suicide.
“If you’ve experienced any level of pain or trauma, I think part of our healing journey, and certainly part of mine, is being able to be really open about it,” Markle said. “And I haven’t really scratched the surface of my experience, but I do think that I would never want anyone else to feel that way, and I would never want anyone else to make those kinds of plans, and I would never want someone else would feel this way. someone else who is not believed.”
Markle spoke publicly about her suicidal thoughts for the first time in a 2021 sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, She admitted to the talk show host that she felt “ashamed” when she first discussed it with her husband and family.
“I was really ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry, especially because I know how much loss he has suffered. But I knew if I didn’t say it, I would,” Markle said. “I just didn’t want to live anymore.”
Three years later, Markle feels more comfortable discussing her struggles. While it remains a sensitive topic for the Duchess of Sussex, she hopes her words can support people struggling with suicidal thoughts and encourage them to seek help.
“If expressing what I have overcome will save someone, or encourage someone in their life to really look at them honestly, and not assume that appearances are good so that everything is fine, then that is worth it,” Markle added. “I’m going to get a slap for that.”
