Martin Short tells Selena Gomez ‘I Got You, Baby’ at the 2024 Emmys

The Only murders in the building stars may not have taken home gold on television’s biggest night on Sunday, September 15, but they put their adorable bond on full display when they presented an award with costar Steve Martin.
“I got you, baby,” Short, 74, could be heard saying sweetly to Gomez, 32, as they took the stage with Martin to present the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. (The Bear‘S Ebon Moss-Bachrach took home the prize.)
The Only murders trio was one of the highlights of the evening and clearly enjoyed themselves on stage as they burst into laughter during the award presentation. Gomez teased that her costars were about to become “childless cat ladies.”

In another joke, Gomez said, “The Emmy Awards! What a magical night it was remembering people’s names,” before Short added that they “acted as if we had seen their shows.”

Gomez, Short and Martin, 79, all went home empty-handed on Sunday, although it was still a special night for Gomez, who scored her first nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Jean Slim eventually won the prize for Hackingwhile The Bear‘S Jeremy Allen White won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, beating Short and Martin.
Short also had eagle-eyed viewers when he was spotted next to another Only murders costar, Meryl Streepamid persistent dating rumors. The pair smiled and whispered to each other as they watched White accept his award.
The pair’s appearance at the Emmys comes after months of speculation about their off-screen relationship, which flared up after they sat next to each other at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. In January, a representative for Short denied that the two, who play love interests in the Hulu series, were dating, saying in a statement, “They’re just really good friends, that’s all.”
In August, the duo reignited romance speculation when they were spotted holding hands at their show’s Season 4 premiere afterparty in Los Angeles.
