Mandarin Oriental has been recognized with three top prizes at the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards. The luxury hotelier won titles for:
• The world’s leading sustainable energy efficiency initiative 2025
• The world’s leading sustainable cultural heritage project 2025
• The world’s leading sustainable policy initiative 2025
Mandarin Oriental sets a global benchmark in sustainable luxury through its transparent, responsible and action-oriented sustainability strategy. With clearly defined environmental targets for 2030, the group drives real estate-driven optimization in the areas of energy efficiency, renewable sources, water savings and waste minimization. Since 2012, the group has been tracking Scope 1 and 2 emissions and is now measuring Scope 3 to enable deeper decarbonization.
The titles were unveiled before an audience of hundreds of global leaders in sustainable tourism at the World Sustainable Travel & Hospitality Awards Gala Ceremony 2025. The VIP ceremony was held at Terra, Expo City Dubai, and recognized the individuals and organizations accelerating change in net positive tourism.

Mandarin Oriental’s sustainability initiatives include the elimination of 99% of single-use plastics, preventing more than 930 tons of plastic waste annually. Sourcing practices are rigorously audited by third-party auditor LRQA, maintaining 100% responsible sourcing for core products and 93% cage-free egg sourcing.
Through the Responsible Hotel Development Guidelines, the group ensures that sustainability is embedded from the ground up. In 2023, more than 78,000 volunteer hours from colleagues supported more than 500 local community initiatives. Mandarin Oriental’s combination of innovation, measurable results and community engagement cements its position as a global leader in high-impact responsible hospitality.
The Awards are organized in partnership with the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, whose partners and members represent more than 66,000 hotels, eight million rooms worldwide, 300 brands and more than 100 supply chain and strategic partners.
