Maldives visit strengthens support measures amid global travel disruptions | News

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), in close collaboration with national ministries and industry stakeholders, has launched a comprehensive response strategy to address the ongoing disruptions to the global aviation network. Recognizing the operational challenges and anxiety caused by recent flight cancellations, Visit Maldives is prioritizing traveler safety and destination resilience through a range of proactive measures designed to support both international guests and local industry partners.

To date, these efforts have successfully enabled eight repatriation flights, including special flights to Germany and France, allowing travelers to return home safely. To provide immediate on-site assistance, a specialized helpdesk has been established at Velana International Airport (VIA) in collaboration with the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) and the Ministry of Tourism and Environment. This hub acts as a crucial resource for visitors, providing guidance and various forms of assistance during this period of uncertainty.
In addition to the immediate relief efforts, Visit Maldives is actively working with several airlines to explore the possibility of additional flights and improved connectivity options in the coming weeks. To mitigate the impact on arrival figures, the company is calling for a united industry front to launch joint marketing campaigns. These initiatives will specifically target markets such as India, China, Russia and other Asian regions where travel disruptions have been relatively less severe, ensuring sustainable demand for the destination.

Looking at long-term recovery, Visit Maldives develops a coordinated crisis response strategy for the destination. The company plans to host an industry-wide discussion soon to share insights, align recovery tactics and identify practical measures to support the sector. By promoting open communication and incorporating feedback from all stakeholders, Visit Maldives remains committed to navigating these global challenges through the unity and resilience that has long defined the Maldivian tourism industry.
