The Maldives will take center stage as the official host country of ITB Berlin 2027, showcasing the Indian Ocean island’s beauty, diversity and hospitality to the global travel industry at the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show.

The partnership was officially sealed at ITB Berlin 2026: Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives (MMPRC) and Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin, signed the agreement during an official photo ceremony at the Maldives stand in Hall 5.2. “We are delighted that the Maldives will once again take center stage at ITB Berlin, 10 years after its first appearance as host country. This long-term partnership underlines the importance of ITB Berlin as a global platform and highlights the prominent role of the Maldives in the international travel industry. In 2027, we look forward to showcasing the extraordinary beauty and diversity of the Maldives, while also demonstrating how tourism and sustainability can go hand in hand,” said Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO from. from Messe Berlin.

A global stage for an exceptional destination

With more than 1,000 islands, turquoise lagoons, white-sand beaches and vibrant coral reefs, the Maldives are among the most iconic long-haul destinations in the world. The country stands for exclusive resort experiences, authentic local island tourism and warm hospitality.

As host of ITB Berlin 2027, the Maldives will showcase the full diversity of its tourism offering: from luxury resorts and boutique hotels to diving experiences, water sports, wellness retreats and cultural encounters. Just a few weeks earlier, the Maldivian President visited Berlin and was received in Berlin by the German Federal President. The historic visit highlighted the island nation’s strategic importance to Germany and the international community.

Visit Maldives Year 2027: presentation of the islands to the world

The year 2027 has been officially declared “Visit Maldives Year”, a historic national tourism initiative aimed at highlighting the unique appeal of the Maldives on the world stage. The campaign, announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, highlights the country’s commitment to sustainable growth, international cooperation and the continued development of the tourism sector as a key driver of the economy. Through a series of global marketing efforts, including participation in major travel events, roadshows and targeted digital campaigns, ‘Visit Maldives Year’ will showcase the island’s natural beauty, cultural wealth and hospitality to travelers and partners worldwide, strengthening the Maldives’ position as a leading long-haul destination.

Strong presence at ITB Berlin 2027

As host country, the Maldives will host the official opening gala at the ITB Berlin venue on March 15, 2027 and present a vibrant program during the show from March 16 to 18, 2027. Trade visitors can expect an impressive national stand, cultural performances, networking events and press activities designed to position the Maldives prominently within the international tourism industry.
