Ludwig Göransson and EJAE win at SCL Awards

“Sinners” composer Ludwig Göransson and “KPop Demon Hunters” singer and songwriter EJAE led the winners at the 7th annual Society of Composers and Lyricists awards.

Göransson took home two SCL Awards for his ‘Sinners’ score and original song ‘I Lied to You’, co-written with Raphael Saadiq. Songwriters EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick won for outstanding original song for a comedy or musical with “Golden.”

Elsewhere, “Train Dreams” composer Bryce Dessner took home the award for outstanding original score for an independent film.

Göransson and ‘Sinners’ director Ryan Coogler received the Spirit of Collaboration Award.

On the TV side, composer Theodore Shapiro took home the outstanding score for a television production for “Severance,” while “The White Lotus” composer Cristóbal Tapia won the Veer for the original title sequence for a television production.

The SCL celebrated the 50th anniversary of “Rocky” with a musical tribute and performance led by Academy Award-winning composer Bill Conti, who scored five films in the blockbuster franchise and co-composed the iconic theme “Gonna Fly Now” (“Theme from Rocky”).

Melissa Manchester performed for the In Memoriam segment, singing “I’ll Never Say Goodbye,” her Oscar-nominated song from the 1979 film “The Promise,” written by David Shire and the late Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman. Alan Bergman, who passed away in 2025, was featured during the segment.

The awards were presented at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles and presented by Kevin Bacon and Emmy-winning composer Michael Bacon (The Bacon Brothers).
