‘Love Island USA’ Nic and Olandria About Dating, Cierra’s Exit & More

While “Love Island USA” may be over for the summer, the romantic relationships for the final pairs have not ended.

In an interview with the winners, Amaya Espinal and Bryan Arenales, the couple confirmed the status of their relationship and what the future has in store for them outside the villa.

“I want to meet other members of his family, especially his mom,” Espinal said Variety About Zoom on Wednesday. “He has to meet my brothers and sisters. Small things that are very impactful and sentimental to both of us, such as dates or film evenings in each other’s houses. We want to enjoy each other’s company now cameras and microphones are eliminated.”

But Espinal and Arenales were not the only participants who decided to explore their romantic connection after the show. In contrast to the winning pair, Nic Vansteenberghe and Oandria Carthen were both original islanders who entered the show together. However, their love story did not start until the last episodes of the season.

The fans of the couple, who gave the couple the ship’s name ‘Nicolandria’, claimed to recognize their spark from the start of the season. Although they had chemistry during challenges, both were prioritizing their other connections, because Catheren was with Cierra Ortega at Taylor Williams and Vansteenberghe.

At a certain moment in the season, Vansteenberghe and Catheren ran the risk of the island to be dumped after they were left during Casa Amor Single. However, their time in the show did not end there, because they were both saved and received an ultimatum: let the island single or return as a few. The couple chose the latter and shared a passionate kiss that changed the process from their connection from friends to loved ones. After Williams decided to earn back with Clarke CarraWay and Ortega’s Abrupt Exit, the path was clear to Vansteenberghe and Carthen to freely explore their brewing romance.

After leaving the show, the couple spoke Variety About dating outside the villa, navigating online hatred and what they are planning to tackle at the reunion.

Nicolandria Stans has said they have seen chemistry from the start. How can you get your phones back and see all the support for your relationship??

Oandria Carthen: All support is so surreal. Nicolandria Stans overshadows everything that is negative, and I appreciate them. If I feel down, I will go back to the tweets and videos that increase us. I appreciate the people behind us. It helped me by navigating my new reality since I left the villa.

Nicolas Vansteenberghe: The support feels good. If you are in the villa, you don’t hear too much from the outside world. During our flight home we looked for 10 hours directly from Nicolandria operations. The only thing we do in our spare time is to see them. When we feel down, Nicolandria is behind us. It is cool to view those taps and reels. They really raise our minds.

On the other hand, some viewers are not convinced how real your connection is. What is your response to the people who doubt the legitimacy of your relationship?

Nic: We know what the connection we have, and our family too.

Oandria: They must understand that whatever is postponed is an hour of 24 hours. You won’t see everything. Nic and I have always had something for each other since day one. I kissed him on the first day. Only because I did not choose to go with him does not mean that Spark was not there. It took us some time to get to this point. But that is what makes this connection so special. We have built so far.

We have to talk about it The kiss in soul tires. It was a big moment for fans.

Nic: Fans call it the kiss that can be heard all over the world.

Oandria: At that time, Nic and I were in two different spaces. Our connections were still open at that time. I still tried to make up for Taylor. Nic had the feeling that he owed Cierra so much. At that moment we did not allowed ourselves to feel that spark. It could have been there, but we tried to convince ourselves that it wasn’t because we felt that we owed our people so much. In a sense I felt guilty of Cierra because I knew how much she missed in Casa. So I felt: “Oh my God, what am I doing?” That was the reason that Nic and I then had that conversation, such as: “Oh, did you feel something? No. Okay. I didn’t.”

Looking back, was that the moment things shifted from friendship to something more or did that realize come from another moment?

Nic: There was a shift in some feelings, but we did not express it verbally. We close it because of the strong connections we had. Internally, another step was taken in what our relationship is now.

Oandria: For that kiss were all the other kisses we shared in challenges. That was the only kiss we shared outside of a challenge. So I have something like: “Okay, why felt a good feeling?” But I feel guilty because I even say that. It was just a strange place where we were both placed. As soon as those connections were officially closed, we could finally return to that first spark where we felt something and enjoy being together without feeling that we owed something.

What does this relationship see for you two now that you are outside the villa?

Nic: Continuing this relationship outside the villa is on data. Last night we went to Disneyland, and that was our first real date outside the villa. We have drawn up more dates, including some travel plans.

How did it enter the real world in Disneyland yesterday?

Oandria: We all walked it. Nic will jump around and take photos. I am more of the reserved. When people come up, I squeeze Nic’s hand like I’m scared. It’s new to me. I just get used to it.

Nic: It’s unique. It is something we are both not used to. I approach it at a different level. I am more extrovert. I like to jump up and down and scream with them. I feel that I scream louder than she.

You had the trip when you started with Taylor. From the perspective of a viewer it seemed as if he might have captured you. Do you feel that your connection to Taylor was carefully depicted?

Oandria: I don’t think my connection with Taylor was shown accurately at all. If I had known from the start that Taylor was not physically attracted to me, I would not go 10 times as fast. I don’t want anyone forcing himself to feel attracted to me. We could have just been friends. They never showed what Taylor did to make me feel like I did. He is a sweet guy. He remembered that everyone’s coffee, tea and breakfast orders. He was everyone’s ‘Dream Guy’. He was so nice for them all. Even when Huda was on the chopping block with him, he wiped her tears with his shirt and set aside his feelings and emotions to ensure that she felt safe and reassured at that moment. Taylor has so many great qualities that they probably have not shown. He constantly cooked in front of me and made sure I was good. If I are cold, he would take off his coat and put it on. If my heels hurt, he would help me take off my shoes, wear my heels in front of me and always hold my hand everywhere. None of that was put there. So it seems that I followed Taylor, and he doesn’t want me. Even if he was not physically attracted to me, Taylor would always compliment me with what I was wearing and making sure I knew I was beautiful. If that was not shown, it is a shame, because now it seems that I am just thirsty. I know my value. I am a beautiful woman. I would never chase what I don’t want.

You said that you were not upset at Taylor for exploring with Clarke, how he did it. How would you like him to have treated the situation differently?

Oandria: I am not upset that Taylor has found a real connection. I wish he had been more with me in advance. When Clarke was in the villa, Taylor told me that he still wants to explore both of us. He never said that he no longer felt our connection or that he did not find me physically attractive. None of those words ever came from his mouth. He kept saying to me and Chelley that he wanted to explore both and was torn over who to choose. If he knew he was set to Clarke, he should have just said that and he told me. I could have placed my energy somewhere else instead of splitting my time and energy between him. That is the part that I was upset about on Taylor.

As a viewer and a black woman who has viewed in recent seasons, “Love Island” has traditionally been a tough experience for women of color. How did you handle the micro-aggressions and racism that came your way after the show?

Oandria: It’s difficult. I’m not going to lie. I heard it was even a meme that I was George Floyd and Huda as an officer. That is a very sensitive subject for the black community. It is disgusting to say the least. I don’t understand how to take a love show and make such a remark. I even got the death threats. My family got the death threats. It should not be the case at all. I just don’t agree. It is very difficult and unhappy as a black woman. We feel that we cannot really pronounce our mind and express our feelings without being seen as something else. I was everyone’s go-to-person, that’s why you saw those tears when I was dumped from Casa. They said, “She’s the glue to this family. She always makes me feel seen, or she always validates my feelings.” But I was not shown that way. I was portrayed as a common girl. I have something like: “How the hell did you paint me in this light?” I hate it, but I appreciate many of my friends who do it and speak for my character.

Nic, you developed a close friendship with Jeremiah, which made it surprising when you, Ace and Taylor decided to vote. Can you talk about the conversation behind that decision that viewers didn’t see?

Nic: We had to make a group decision, but I want to keep the details of it to the reunion. There is more in that story than what was said. I have a lot of love for Jeremiah, whether he knows it or not. That is all I can say about that.

I want to talk about your earlier connection with Cierra. Are you planning to reach her before closing since she left so abruptly?

Nic: I still take the time to process her entire situation and see where that goes. I take the time with Oandria to concentrate on us and this new life that we live.

When she left, Your two had just been closed. Why did you decide to stay and continue your journey after she left?

Nic: Not aware of the situation, and if I left that villa, it might seem like I would align my values with hers. I had no idea. I stayed behind in the dark. By staying, it worked great. I was able to continue this connection and build with Oandria.

We have the reunion on the agenda. Is there a situation or person who each tackles you on the reunion?

Oandria: I don’t know yet. I have to wait for people to finish these podcasts. My name comes up quite often. I don’t know what it is for. Let me finish going through those podcasts and see with whom I would like to have this conversation during the reunion. I don’t have a good answer to that yet, but I am doing my homework now.

Nic: I would like to address Belle-A and Jeremiah. Those are my top two.

What do you want to tackle specifically with Belle-A?

Nic: Some people appear on podcasts and say things that can be wrong or interpreted. I know that the audience had something to say about the situation with her and Cierra. I want to explain where I came from when I decided to choose Cierra above her.
