Lewis Hamilton and more sports stars became film producers

Formula 1 Superstar Lewis Hamilton is going in a new race this summer – as a film producer who chases the crown on the cash register. He drives in plywood with “F1 The Movie”, the blockbuster with high-o-octane hopeful of his company Dawn Apollo films and original Apple films.

For his recent Variety Cover Story With Apple’s Tim Cook, Hamilton opened about making the professional pivot point.

“I grew up in a time when people really put you in a box, and it’s like you can only do one thing,” Hamilton explained. “When I was in school, I was very creative, and when I started racing, there was a lot that had to be suppressed or put aside. And as I got older, I really started to create room to tap these different creative points of sale, which I found inspiring and gave me much more confidence.”

Hamilton was closely involved in making the racing film, in which Brad Pitt and Damson Idris plays the leading role as drivers in a scrappy, Underdog team that pursues their first victory over the Formula 1 circuit. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Joseph Kosinski, “F1” was filmed during the Race Seasons 2023 and 2024, which means that Hamilton at the same time managed his day’s work as a driver and a new career as a producer of the film.

“I would often come to LA and be in Jerry’s office, that was crazy, or Joe’s studio that went through the script through the script, the dialog box, the terminology that is authentic for racing programs, switches, gears you hear that overlap,” Hamilton remembered. “I had to get involved. And then we have it [composer] Hans Zimmer on board, and we go to his studio and see him create. It was an emotional roller coaster. “

Hamilton is not the first athlete trying to produce his hand in producing script content – think of LeBron James and his Springhill Company or the late Kobe Bryant, who won an Oscar for the best animated short – but his entrance on the scene underlines that audience more than just football and snellball.
