Lala Kent cries and says VPR cast change reminds her of her father’s death

Lala Kent burst into tears while discussing why she left Vanderpump Rules reminded her of her father’s death.

“I’ve known this was coming for a while. I think I knew the moment I lost my s— at the season 11 finale,” Kent, 34, explained on the Friday, Nov. 29, episode of former costar Scheana Shay‘Scheananigans’ podcast. “It just felt very final to me.”

Kent recalled feeling like her time was over Vanderpump Rules finished and added, ‘There was nothing more to say. The story was done. And I think I’ve been saying that for a while. There is no more story to tell with this group of people.”

Although Kent did not directly compare her departure to her father’s death, she admitted there was an unexpected emotional connection.

“I don’t compare this moment to the death of my father. But there was a moment when I remember I was in a limo in Utah and it broke down on the highway to Park City,” she shared. “And I wanted to lose my s.” I remember looking at my dad and thinking I wanted to take away my fear, because I thought, ‘This is a moment I want to remember because it’s funny.’ We are sitting in a white broken limousine on the side of the road. I thought, ‘My dad isn’t going to be here forever because he had health problems.’ Then the phone call that was made, where it was like, “Dad’s gone.”

Kent began to cry as she relived the news of her father’s death in 2018.

“I don’t compare the ending of Vanderpump Rules to that. But I remember so many moments where we all had ups and downs and said, ‘Y’all, we’re doing a great TV show,'” she continued. “This is wild. One day it will be over. We will not remember the bad. We will be so happy that it all happened. It won’t last forever.”

Vanderpump Rules started in 2013 with Bravo as a spin-off of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Kent joined in Season 4 and remained on the show until the news on Tuesday, November 26 that Season 12 would feature an all-new cast.

“When [executive producer] Alex [Baskin] called me, I knew it was coming. But it was like, ‘Oh, we’re here.’ It no longer exists as it once did,” Kent noted Friday. ‘And now I have the graduation effect. Where it is, you never want to go back to high school because it was a horrible time, but there is something that permeates.

Facing the end of her time Vanderpump Rules pushed Kent to appreciate the experience more.

“I feel an intense bond with my cast. They probably don’t feel the same way,” she joked. “But I don’t remember anything bad. I only remember the good. I consider myself a 24 year old [who joined the show] into the craziest worlds and then sober up during the show. A large part of my life has been documented.”

Kent prepares to say goodbye Vanderpump Rules comes after a tumultuous final season. After season 11 months later was picked up Tom Sandoval‘s affair with Rachel LevissKent started off by siding with Sandoval’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Madix. However, the finale took a turn when Kent fired at 39-year-old Madix for refusing to film with 42-year-old Sandoval.

The tension was compounded when producers had the cast watch the final moments of the reunion together.

“There’s one thing I would have changed – and it wasn’t on camera. I wish that after the finale – after I lost my mind – I had called Ariana and said, “I just want you to know that I said some very, very hurtful things. It will probably end the friendship,” Kent admitted on Shay’s podcast. “It wasn’t my style. I can’t even believe I haven’t done that because I’m so adamant about saying things behind your back that I’m going to say it to your face.

Kent recalled staying close to Madix once the film was completed, adding, “I still supported her, knowing that I said what I said. I think I compartmentalized in my mind. I thought, ‘But that had to do with the show.’ I was mad at her because of the show and I wasn’t even mad at her. I don’t regret saying what I said. I regret not giving her the heads up.”

Madix in turn responded to the Vanderpump Rules also cast revision news without acknowledgment of any cast outages.

“Vanderpump Rules, you will always be that girl 💖 I was up until 4am looking for the right pictures and the right words, but there is no post or caption that could ever sum it all up. I am forever grateful to have been part of such an incredible cultural phenomenon,” Madix wrote via Instagram on Tuesday. “I am at peace with closing this chapter and excited for all that is to come.”
