Justin Fields kept it honest with reporters after the Jets’ first win of the season … saying the past seven days have “been a lot for me” — and at one point found himself crying on the floor in the closet.
Fields explained it all during a meeting with the media… days after the team owner Woody Johnson called him out for the team’s tough season.
Fields explained that it was not his lack of victory that overwhelmed him with emotion, but rather his faith in God as he prayed desperately for a victory.
“I’m getting pretty vulnerable here,” Fields said. “This week I was in my closet, lying on the floor, crying. Not because of the hardship, not because of the problems, I felt like I was built to deal with that and put in place to deal with this situation.”
“At that moment when I was talking to my best friend, you know how hard it was, and not wavering faith-wise. I had just gotten a text from my sister and my stepmom and it was just an encouraging text to just keep going and keep spreading the faith.”
“It was just a sign from God for me to keep going and that I’m in the right place.”
Faith helped the 26-year-old record his second-best game as a member of Gang Green… throwing for 244 yards and a touchdown on 21 completions.
Many people came to Fields’ defense after his boss called him out…including Alex Smithwho said the problem could be Johnson himself.
“It’s impossible to overcome dysfunctional ownership. Maybe the problem is you, Woody.”

Woody hasn’t publicly commented on the match yet, but we imagine he’s happy to know they won’t be the first team to finish 0-17.
Fields wasn’t the only one feeling the emotions; the entire Jets organization was deeply affected on Sunday … as a Ring of Honor member Nick Mangold died at the age of 41 following complications of kidney disease.
