Julia Roberts becomes provocative in ‘After the Hunt’: Daily Variety

In Hollywood there are great actors and luminous movie stars – and then there is Julia Roberts.
La Roberts shows the film world again how it was done last month at the Film Festival of Venice with her buzzing appearance to launch her latest film, Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt”. In the latest episode of “Daily Variety” Podcast, Ramin Setoodeh, Variety Co-editor in Chief, Details for our cover story are sit down interview with Roberts, Guadagnino and other important cast members of the Amazon MGM Studios film, which bows in the theaters on 17 October.
Although the subject of the film is difficult – around the consequences of an accusation of sexual abuse at a university campus – Setoodeh said that it was clear from the Cameradschap among the cast members that “After the Hunt” group had a great time to work together. Roberts and Guadagnino mainly connected during the Wervelwind 28-day shoot. Ayo Edebiri, Andrew Garfield, Chloë Sevigny and Michael Stuhlbarg can also be seen in the story. Roberts plays a flared professor at the university who is entangled in the crossfire between the accusation and the accused.
“I asked [Roberts] Her why she chose this role, “says Setoodeh.” What was interesting is that she read the script, she liked the script, but for her it is really about working with the right director she feels comfortable with and she feels that she will be connected to the set. And so she said she was interested in the role, but she did not make the decision to accept this project until she and Luca were together. They were at a friend’s house, they sat together and then they just started talking and they couldn’t stop talking. They spoke for hours together and they were really, really connected. And that is what inspired her to take on the role that I thought was very interesting, because many actors will choose a director based on what they see on the screen. But for Julia it’s really about the personal connection. ”

Also in the episode, Chris Willman, Variety‘s Chief Music Critic dives into the new documentary’ Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery ‘, which bends on Hulu on September 21. The completely female Summer Tour Festival led by Sarah Mclachlan, who was then at the height of her popularity and industry, was a groundbreaking effort in more than one way.
“It was also pioneering with the multi-genre festival. Now it is common to see multi-genre accounts. And with Coachella you literally see everything that is represented,” says Willman. “But Lilith Fair, the common denominator is not the music. It is not even the attitude so much. It is the common denominator the gender. And so there is so much that you can place under that umbrella because they ultimately sort out. Don’t get so much credit for.”
