Julia Garner to play Caroline Ellison in the FTX series at Netflix

Julia Garner is currently negotiating a leading role in a Netflix Limited series that would explore the rise and fall of FTX, Variety Has learned from sources.
The titll-free series would explore the story of the infamous cryptocurrency exchange by the lens of the love story of Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Greurtuurd, with Garner approaching a deal to play Ellison. According to sources, Netflix commissioned eight episodes with plans to start photographing in the summer.
Representatives for Netflix refused to comment.
Graham Moore (“The Imitation Game”, “The Outfit”) is the writer, executive producer and co-showrunner in the project, with Jacqueline Hoyt (“The Reftovers”, “The Good Wife”) to serve as an executive producer and co-showrunner. Barack and Michelle Obama will produce executive under their higher ground banner together with Vinnie Malhotra. Scoop Wasserstein of Scoop Productions is also an executive producer, in which Lauren Morelli executive also produces. James Ponsoldt will direct the first episode and executive products.
The role would bring Garner back to Netflix, where she previously played in the hit crime drama “Ozark” and the limited crime drama “invent Anna”. She received three Emmy nominations – with three victories – for the best supporting actress in a drama for “Ozark” and a nomination for the best actress in a limited series for “invention Anna”.
The other Netflix credits from Garner include “The Get Down” and “Maniac”, while she has also been in shows as “The Americans” and “Dirty John.” In Film, Garner will play the Silver Surfer in the upcoming “Fantastic Four” film for Marvel, and will play the leading role in the long -awaited horror film “Weapons” by Zach Cregger. “Both films will be released later this year.

FTX was founded in 2019 and became one of the largest and most famous cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. But in 2022 the company imploded, with billions of dollars of customer funds that are reportedly missing and investigations that are underway by federal agencies. Bankman-Gefruurde founded FTX, where Ellison served as CEO of the affiliated crypto-trading company Alameda Research. Both were ultimately convicted of different counts of wire and securities fraud, as well as money laundering. Amazon had also commissioned a limited series about FTX in 2022.
