Judy Garland’s Former Cape COD Escape affects the market for $ 6.8 million – only across the side of the iconic Kennedy Compound

An estate by the sea in the heart of the port of Hyannis came on the market for $ 6.8 million – 64 years after it had served a summer reserve for Hollywood icon Judy Garland.

The Seven Bedroom estate, which was built in 1890, was rented by “The Wizard of Oz” star in 1961, when her daughter, actress Liza Minnelliplayed and worked at the nearby Cape Cod Melody Tent.

Locally known as ‘The Judy Garland House’, the house has all the elements that one would expect in a beach house, with listing agent Paul Grovervan Berkshire Hathaway home services Robert Paul Properties.

“The location in the port of Hyannis is a sweet small village that people all over the world have heard,” he notes. “It is what people have in mind when they think of typical Cape COD with his weathered, shingled houses, beautiful hydrangeas and beaches.”

While the house was made famous by one woman, Grover adds that it would serve as an ideal family homes – not least because of the proximity of all kinds of fun activities.

A highlight of the house is the vast deck that guests greet the moment they arrive.

“It has this beautiful, covered veranda that is L-shaped where this family lived in the summers,” says Grover. “When it comes to the summer on Cape Cod, the veranda is the heart of the house.”

Designed for relaxed, entertaining, weeks in the view and enjoying the sea breeze, the spacious estate offers a spectacular view from almost every room.

“Seven bedrooms for a house of Cape Cod is also very nice,” Grover adds. “There is a good chance that the next buyer will probably buy it as a second home or holiday -unanimously. It’s all about entertaining family and guests here.

“The house was a magnet for the seller’s family to collect. We often find a buyer who looks like the seller: someone who wants a place for their children and grandchildren to come and enjoy the use of generation.”

The historic house has retained many period details, including stored hardwood floors, streamed ceilings, built -in seats, curved doors and two fireplaces.

“The building has been well cared for and carefully modernized in such a way to retain his charm,” he notes. “With regard to improvements, they recently did a new Cedar gravel facade cladding and an asphalt roof.”

An updated Eat-in Kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a walk-in pantry and access to the rear patio designed for dining abroad.

“What makes it fun is that it is located near Hyannis, a village in the city of Barnstable,” he explains. “It is the hub of the cape with an airport, ferries to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, and it has an incredible restaurant scene.

“Cape COD Melody tent is also nearby. It is such a small location with a rotating stage, so there is never a bad chair to view a show. It is almost a throwback species that reminds people of their childhood and summer time. Hyannis Port is a hidden gem and such a special small village.”

The primary bedroom has a separate sitting area. The wing above the attached garage for two cars has three bedrooms together with a spacious bonus room.

“The buyer can also be someone in the community who exchanges or reduces and wants a home with a water view,” says Grover. “Usually, on Cape Cod, when people put their roots down, they stay in the same community but often move within the community.

“They can also come from a much larger house in the community and simply no longer want to maintain that big real estate.”

In addition to his famous former tenant, the house is also surrounded by history -just a few feet across the street from the start of the iconic Hyannis -port compound of the Kennedy family.

It was with this Cape COD Retreat that John F. Kennedy Planted his presidential campaign in the summer of 1960, and it was where his wife, JackieFleed after he was killed in 1963 at the age of 46.

The port of Hyannis would be where Jackie made the image of Kennedy’s presidency as Camelot in the aftermath of his death, took inspiration from his favorite Broadway musical and the media told in her first official interview after his death: “Don’t let it be for a short, shiny moment there was Camelot there.”

The house had been the site of many happy holidays for John and Jackie and It served over the years as a much needed retreat for other family members and became the site of an annual fourth July reunion for many of their descendants.
