Juan Diego Botto Femicided drama is produced, distributed by Sideral

The Madrid-based Sideral, an integrated label for production-distribution-sales that debuted in the Berlinale in 2023, has announced plans to produce and spread a femicid drama ‘Los Relatos’ by Miguel del Arco with Juan Botto (‘The Room Next’, Etura (‘The Room Next’, Etura (‘The Room Next’) Eliande (Mr. No One ‘) shows the cast.

Sideral will handle both international sales and distribution in Spain.

Main photography starts in September with Aquí y Allí films that also produce. The release is the target for the end of next year.

“Los Relatos” investigates the permanent, painful consequences of a femicide – even more than 20 years after the crime was committed. It follows Pablo (played by Botto), who returns to his hometown after serving time for the murder of his wife – the place where it all happened. Only the public can decide whether he will earn a second chance – apparently someone who will never have his victim.

Del Arco said: “Writing this script has kept me a constant lead, which means that I have to confront deep contradictions. But the action of empathy is exactly what makes our human being. Trying to place himself in another, I believe, the only way we can move forward as a society.”

Roberto Butagueño, Sideral’s Roberto Butragueño, said his full confidence in Del Arco and his cast and said, “” Los Relatos “is a daring, necessary project, full of sensitivity.”

The drama investigates the emotional and moral complexity that arises when a murderer decides to confront his past instead of disappearing in anonymity. It delves into the needs of victims and their families while trying to reclaim dignity in the aftermath of violence. In essence, the story investigates the uncomfortable coexistence of reintegration and justice, the possibility to forgive the unexpected and pursuant of redemption in the light of irreparable damage.

“What is really valuable about this film is the number of questions it raises. We would like ‘Los Relatos’ an accessible proposal to the public, without giving up the human problems that generate contradictions, doubts and even rejection,” said Aquí y Allí films’ Pedro Hernández.

Sideral, founded by Butagueño from Elamedia Estudios, made his debut for presenting job project “cheaper than stealing” on the Berlinal Coproduction Market two years ago. It was launched with a strong slate of 22 titles in production, distribution or sale. These include Javier Rebollos “in the Sultan’s Bedchamber” and “I Have Electric Dreams” by Costa Rican Locarno Multiple winner, Valeria Maurel.

The distribution unit, led by Maria Oliva, has a whole series of high-profile photos that are planned to release, including Michel Franco’s “Dreams” with Jessica Chastain, and “The Chronology of Water” with Imogen Poots, Tora Birch and Jim Belushi.

Other sideral characteristics in the production are “broken lines” by Anxos Fazàns (“Las Lineas Discontinues”), Manuel Gómez Pereira’s “The Dinner” (“La Cena”) and Igor Legarreta’s “Blind Ants” (“Las Ciegas Hormigas”).
