Jon Stewart slams Fox News response to No Kings protests

On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart went after Fox News for their lackluster response to Saturday’s No Kings protests.

Stewart opened the monologue with excerpts of House Speaker Mike Johnson calling the No Kings protests the “hate America rally,” and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent calling the participants “the most left-wing, the hardest-core, the most unhinged in the Democratic party.”

“Not the hardest core! I expected partial Marxism and hard core, but not the full representation of hardest core Marxism,” Stewart joked. “It would be a kind of ‘Mad Max’, with Chuck Schumer on flaming guitar!”

He added: “So this weekend we sat in our bunkers, doors locked, windows boarded up, muskets and cyanide pills at the ready, prepared for whatever the hardest core had in store. Do your utmost, put your Marxism on full display!”

Stewart then pushed back on CNN’s report, which claimed that approximately seven million people participated in the nationwide demonstration, and that the protests were “largely peaceful” and “often joyful.”

“It was an incredible turnout that was somewhat inspiring. 7 million Americans, zero mass shootings?” said Stewart. “I look forward to Republicans sincerely apologizing for suggesting that these Americans are… what’s the word I’m looking for? Deplorable!”

Back on Fox News, anchors called the contestants “stupid” and “stupid.” One commenter said that because of all the “absurdist costumes” the protests “don’t look serious.”

“Make a decision, Fox,” Stewart said. “You complained that it would be a terrifying ‘poop in your pants’ protest, and now you’re complaining about how boring taking off your pants was? Even though there was one nit you picked that really didn’t fit the brand.”

Stewart then addressed another complaint from Fox News, namely that the No Kings protests consisted mainly of “old white people.”

“Extra extra, read all about it here! ‘This country has too many angry old white people,’ says Fox News, ‘wait a minute,’ Stewart joked. “Fox News says, ‘Why are old white people so angry?’ Fox News, angry that there are so many old white people in America.
