Jon Stewart slams Democrats for ending the government shutdown

On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart came after Democrats for voting to end the government shutdown without extending Affordable Care Act subsidies, which is the main issue the left has been fighting for during the 41-day hiatus.
“They fucking gave in to the shutdown,” Stewart fumed. “Not even a full week removed from the best election results they’ve had in years, seven Democratic senators and one ‘Independent’ voted with their Republican counterparts to end the shutdown and reopen the government. And have they received their extended health care subsidies?”
Stewart turned to an ABC 7 soundbite for the answer: “Democrats wanted the deal to include an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies. Instead, they were promised a vote on it at a later date.”
“I can’t fucking believe it,” Stewart continued. “You had the wind at your back! Election victories across the country. Sydney Sweeney’s new movie was box office bupkis! Apparently her new MAGA fan base didn’t show up in droves to see a biopic about a lesbian professional boxer who overcomes domestic violence to live her truth. Who could have seen that coming? Democrats, you sold out the entire shutdown, not to get what you wanted, but for the promise of not getting what you wanted later.”
Legislation to end the nation’s longest government shutdown in history passed the Senate on Monday evening. However, it still must pass the House of Representatives and then receive a signature from Donald Trump. With a Republican majority in the House of Representatives, the proposal is likely to pass, and Trump is expected to sign the bill with full support from the right.
