Jon Stewart exclaims, “What’s happening in this country?”

On this week’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart tackled the whirlwind of stories from the past weekend, including Donald Trump’s handling of Venezuela after Nicolás Maduro’s conquest, proposed U.S. military action in Cuba, Greenland and Iran, and the response to the shooting of Renee Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen who was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minnesota.
“How was your weekend? Was it good?” Stewart said at the top of Monday’s show. “How was your weekend? Yeah. What the hell is happening? What the hell is happening in this country? From Minnesota, to Venezuela, to Iran, to Greenland, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia.”
Stewart went on to say that with all the chaos happening in the US, it feels like America is on the ‘Donald Trump gravitron’, adding: “We don’t know what’s up or down. All we know is that it feels like we’re all going to throw up.”
The late-night pundit deemed Trump “the catalyst of all this chaos and confusion” and blasted the president for giving this “TGIF” while the rest of the world fought for stability.
“Meanwhile, our State Department says, ‘If you’re an American, there are armed gangs [in Venezuela] I’m trying to kill you,'” Stewart said. “So you would think that this might call for a small meeting in the situation tent or wherever is operationally appropriate to talk about Venezuela right now.” But the president had a different idea.”
Stewart then transitioned to an ABC News segment reporting that Trump had “convened top oil executives at the White House this weekend to talk about divvying up Venezuela’s oil.”
“What the hell is going on?” exclaimed the late-night expert. “By the way, don’t worry that Donald Trump is in any way feeling the weight of this moment, the terrifying responsibility of so many lives in his hands. Let me reassure you: He’s doing just fine.”
The show then cut to a clip from the meeting, in which Trump pauses the sit-down to look out the window and admire the construction of his new ballroom.
“And look at Rubio and Vance,” Stewart joked. “Look at Heckle and Jeckle’s faces here. They look like, ‘Oh! Pawpaw! He’s so cute! You should see him when the ice cream truck goes by!'”
