John Mulaney postpones shows in Minneapolis after ICE shooting

Comedian John Mulaney has decided to postpone his shows in Minneapolis, scheduled for this weekend, in light of Wednesday’s shooting by an ICE officer. The city has seen large demonstrations after an ICE officer shot and killed a local mother and poet, Renee Nicole Good, during a protest.
“What’s happening in your city is heartbreaking,” Mulaney said wrote on Instagram. “I hate to postpone shows in a city that is going through such terrible challenges and so much sadness because it feels unfair to the audience.”
Mulaney is currently touring with his “Mr. Anything” show and will continue in St. Louis on January 15 before heading to Seattle, New York and, after the rescheduled dates in Minneapolis, to London.
“Yet I don’t feel comfortable asking thousands of people every evening to leave their homes, gather at the location and then go home when the situation is so unsafe.
“Tickets for this weekend will be honored for the respective days of Friday through Sunday, April 10, 11 and 12. For questions or refunds, please contact your point of sale or Ticketmaster.
“I’m sorry to anyone who is disappointed. I know a fun stand-up show can be a nice distraction, but it doesn’t suit me to put anyone in danger,” he concluded.
“This was the right decision,” one fan commented on his Instagram post. Another called on Mulaney to help with the effort to get ICE out of Minneapolis, saying, “Please all join us in supporting our community by using your big platform to get ICE out of our city. Maybe once it’s safer to operate here again, you’ll feel safer.”
At a demonstration on Thursday against Good’s killing, demonstrators were met with tear gas, according to the New York Times reported. While some federal officials described the shooting as lawful, officials from Minneapolis and Minnesota called the stories “propaganda” and “garbage.” Protests in the city against the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been going on for weeks.
