John confirmed his flight with Essex County airport around noon.

After breakfast John went to his office around 10 a.m., he spent the rest of his morning with the staff of his magazine, GeorgePlanning stories and working out financial affairs.

Around noon, John received a phone call from Essex County Airport in Fairfield, New Jersey, asking if he was planning to fly that evening with his little Piper Saratoga plane plane.

John confirmed his plans to remove the plane and asked to be ready for departure.

He then received a phone call from a flight instructor asking if he wanted him to fly to Martha’s Vineyard with him. John, who had received his pilot permit a year earlier, the instructor told no and that he can handle it.

The bodies of John, Carolyn and Lauren were found days later on July 21 after an extensive search and rescue mission.

The National Transportation Safety Board later concluded that the crash was the result of the pilot error and stated: “Kennedy’s failure to maintain control of the aircraft during a descent over water at night, which was a result of spatial disorientation.”
