Around noon, John received a phone call from Essex County Airport in Fairfield, New Jersey, asking if he was planning to fly that evening with his little Piper Saratoga plane plane.
John confirmed his plans to remove the plane and asked to be ready for departure.
He then received a phone call from a flight instructor asking if he wanted him to fly to Martha’s Vineyard with him. John, who had received his pilot permit a year earlier, the instructor told no and that he can handle it.

John met Carolyn’s sister Lauren around 6.30 am and went to the airport, where they met his wife.
He left the George Office for lunch in Trionfo around 1 p.m. and returned to the office at 3 p.m.
Between 5 pm and 6 pm John spoke with his sister -in -law Lauren and agreed to meet her at 6.30 pm outside his office building before he left the office, John checked a weather forecast, who stated that everything was clear.
John’s plane was not certified to only fly with instruments, but the weather conditions before that night met his license -requirements.
The magazine publisher met Lauren and the two went on his way to New Jersey in his car, while Carolyn was also walking through the traffic to meet them at the airport.

Other pilots issue concern
John gave rise to the concern of veteran pilots when he started his before the flight around 8:15 pm
Eventually the trio arrived at 8 p.m. at Essex County airport, a photographer who was tipped on the journey, remembered that Carolyn and Lauren looked ‘fresh and lively’.

Two minutes after the flight, John Air Traffic Control (ATC) roughened to confirm that he was going to the east “north of Teterboro …
The message would be the only communication that John had with air traffic control and the last time his voice was heard outside the plane.
At 8:49 pm ATC tried to contact John because he was on the same path as an American Airlines plane with 120 passengers.
The American Airlines pilot was able to reach ATC to report that he saw John’s plane, which was climbing up to 5,500 and apparently was not aware of the almost collision.
Around 9.30 pm, when John’s aircraft Point Judith, Rhode reached Island, took a turn again. Within minutes the plane was in the Atlantic Ocean.

The bodies of John, Carolyn and Lauren were found days later on July 21 after an extensive search and rescue mission.
The National Transportation Safety Board later concluded that the crash was the result of the pilot error and stated: “Kennedy’s failure to maintain control of the aircraft during a descent over water at night, which was a result of spatial disorientation.”
