Joaquin Phoenix fixes Rooney Mara’s train at Academy Gala
Joaquin Phoenix And Rooney Mara enjoyed a fun date night at the fourth annual academy museum gala, where the Joker: Folie a Deux actor made sure his better half looked her best.
Phoenix, 49, and Mara, 39, posed together on the red carpet in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 19, looking stunning in their formal ensembles. Phoenix opted for a smart suit and bow tie, while Mara looked regal in a vintage Givenchy dress.
Mara’s gown was sheer and studded with delicate floral appliqués on the bodice, cap sleeves and train. A high-waisted lace panty was seen underneath. For glamour, Mara wore minimal makeup and tied her hair in a sleek bun.
As Mara posed on the red carpet, Phoenix quickly bent down to smooth out her train. He made sure the edge of the upholstery lay painstakingly flat against the carpet as she watched, laughing.
Mara and Phoenix have been together since 2017 and got engaged two years later. The couple welcomed son River in 2020 and announced Mara was pregnant again earlier this year. (It is unknown if she has since welcomed the newborn.)
“Rooney and Joaquin are loving being parents,” a source exclusively shared We weekly in February. “They are a team and are really enjoying this journey together.”
Phoenix and Mara are notably a private couple, but have occasionally talked about their connection and life with River, now four.
“Well, I certainly would hope so [he is vegan]but I’m not going to impose my faith on my child,” Phoenix said The Sunday times in June 2021, specifically citing his own dietary restrictions. “I don’t think that’s right. … So I’m not going to perpetuate the lie, but I’m not going to force him to become vegan either. I will support him. That’s my plan.”
River is named after Phoenix’s older brother of the same name, who died of a drug overdose in October 1993 at the age of 23. joker star was 19 at the time.
