Jennie Garth Says Dan Schenider Had Bad Feelings About ‘What I Like About You’

Jennie Garth avoided hanging out with Dan Schenider while starring in “What I Like About You,” despite him co-creating the WB sitcom.

Garth recalled her experience on the show, playing opposite Amanda Bynes, during an episode of Dax Shepard’s podcast “Armchair Expert.” She first mentioned co-creator Will Calhoun, saying he was producing “What I Like About You” with “another guy,” and said, “I’m selectively forgetting his name at this point. He was part of that big scandal: Dan Schenider.”

She was referring to the allegations of abuse, sexism, racism and inappropriate dynamics with young women against Schneider in the 2024 docuseries “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.”

‘He was [on] the Amanda side of it,” Garth continued. “She had worked with him a lot on ‘The Amanda Show’ and stuff. So he hitched his wagon to her. Shepard asked, “Did you get a bad feeling?” Garth said yes, adding, “To the point where I said to Will, ‘I’d rather just communicate with you. I trust you. I think you have my best interests at heart, and I don’t feel that way about your partner. So I’d rather just be with you.’ And he said, ‘No problem.’”

When Shepard’s co-host Monica Padman asked Garth if she had seen Bynes “destroyed” by Schneider, she replied, “Not him specifically. There were a lot of problems in the ecosystem of her.” Speaking about her former co-star, she added: “When we did the pilot, I had just turned 30, and she had just turned 16. I didn’t know how to be around a teenage girl. She taught me so much.”
