Celebrities lined up at the Grammys to speak out against ICE…but Jelly roll wanted no part of it, avoided the topic outright, and called himself a “stupid redneck” when asked for his opinion.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram media.
Just after winning three Grammys on Sunday, Jelly was pressed backstage about what was going on in RN country, but he quickly shut it down… saying no one should care about his opinion, especially since he hasn’t kept up with the news and recently didn’t even have a phone for 18 months.
JR traced his disconnect from politics all the way back to his youth… when he grew up in a “drug-addicted household” full of “insane pandemonium” and admitted that he “didn’t even know politics really existed” until he ended up in prison in his mid-20s.
Jelly says survival was more important than “rural politics” back then… but this isn’t the Tennessee of the ’80s or ’90s anymore, and it’s pretty hard to stay neutral these days – just ask. Billie Eilish, Bad bunnyor Justin And Hailey Bieberwho all made their feelings loud and obviously at the Grammys.
That said, Jelly ended the conversation by teasing that he has a lot more to say soon… and LBR, for someone who claims he’s non-political, he did testifying before the Senate about the fentanyl crisis two years ago.
So yeah, looks like Jelly was in full-on Grammy celebration mode, and that ICE question caught him off guard… stay tuned!
