Kai Asakura fights for the flyweight title in the main event of UFC 310 – his first-ever fight in the United States – and the Japanese MMA star says there’s one special person he’d like to see on the Octagon side… Shohei Ohtani!
TMZ Sports recently battled the 31-year-old Asakura for his UFC debut – a title fight against the… Alexandre Pantoja on December 10 in Las Vegas – and the 21-4 fighter is hoping the newly minted World Series champion can arrange a trip to Sin City.
“I’ve never met before [Ohtani]Asakura told us through an interpreter. “But I’d like him to come watch my fight.”
It’s unclear if Shohei is even a fight fan… but it’s common to see big stars, including top athletes, at UFC events.
As for what Shohei, or other people watching, can expect from Kai… here’s what he had to say.
“They will realize that I have an explosive fighting style,” he said. “I think they’re going to see something they’ve never seen before, and I want them to be my fans even after this fight.”
We also asked Asakura if 21-4 Pantoja, who is trying to make his third title defense, is his toughest opponent.
“I don’t think so,” he said without wasting time.
We also caught up with the champion… and he sees things going a little differently than his challenger.
