James van der Beek Honors wife Kimberly in the midst of cancer fight
James van der Beek shared a sincere tribute to his wife Kimberly While they celebrated their 15th anniversary in the midst of his cancer fight.
Post via Instagram On Friday, August 1, James, 48, flowed over his partner and credited her for all her support, especially since his diagnosis in 2023.
“15 years ago this woman agreed to be my bride,” James endorsed a photo of the couple. “@Vanderkimberly, you are the most extraordinary person I have ever met. One day I will tell the story of what you have endured in the last two years and how you have showed up, time and time again. You have not only saved my life … you showed me what it is to live.”
He continued: “There are no words for how much I love you and appreciate you. I couldn’t do this without you.”
He closes the caption and added: “Happy birthday my love ❤️”
The Dawson’s Creek Alum met Kimberly in 2009 during a trip to Israel and remembered the Serendipitous meeting via an Instagram caption in 2020.
“I was in Israel, on a journey with an organized group, when it touched me: I was done with single. I wanted a real relationship. A soulmate with whom I could build a family. I was mid -stay, rattled this to a friend of mine when a voice interrupted us, who wanted to ask him a question,” James wrote. “I was irritated. Who the hell got over my moment? I turned around … It was @vanderkimberly.”
The couple took it off and then married in August 2010 in a small ceremony in Tel Aviv. Since then they have welcomed six children together: daughters Olivia, 14, Annabel, 11, Emilia, 9 and Gwendolyn, 6, and sons Joshua, 13, and Jeremiah, 2.
The actor first publicly revealed his cancer diagnosis in November 2024 and shared that he had phase 3 colorectal cancer. He had fought against the disease since he was diagnosed in 2023.
To mark his 48th birthday in May, James placed an Instagram video and admitted that it had been the “most difficult year of my life” because he had explained the effect of his cancer fight on his family.
James explained that defining himself as a “loving, capable, strong, supporting husband, father, provider, steward of the country” was central to his identity – and this was something that was thrown in disorder by his diagnosis.
“And then this year I had to look at my own mortality in the eyes. I came to nose with death,” he said. “All those definitions that I gave so deeply were stripped of me. I was gone for treatment, so that I could no longer be a husband who was helpful for my wife. I could no longer be a father who could pick up his children and put them to bed and be there for them.”
However, he concluded that he succeeded in realizing that he was still worth love and self -love, despite this dynamic shift.
