James Carville accuses Trump of using the strike in Venezuela as a political smokescreen

Carville also questioned the government’s planning and foresight, especially regarding the broader geopolitical consequences of the strike and the aftermath of the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

“What the hell has he ever done that isn’t fully thought out, but even marginally thought out?!” Carville said. ‘Of course we now claim that we have the moral grounds to criticize [Vladimir] Putin for illegally invading a sovereign nation… Well, our case has become a little weaker now, hasn’t it?’

The longtime political operative focused his criticism on Congress and the Supreme Court, accusing both institutions of failing to serve as meaningful checks on presidential power.

“Congress just sits there with one thumb in the air and one in their mouth, and they switch every 30 seconds,” Carville said. He added: “And this Supreme Court you must follow. But never disrespect it.”
