Jake Paul answers Eddie Hearn’s lawsuit and files a countersuit against the promoter
Jake Paul won’t take up his fight Eddie Hearn put it down… because two years after the British promoter filed a $100 million defamation lawsuit against the Problem Child, the 27-year-old is hitting back with his own legal action against Hearn.
In the documents, obtained by TMZ SportsJake argues that Eddie’s lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to silence his right to free speech by using intimidation tactics to silence Paul.
Jake says that Eddie’s lawsuit is complete nonsense, and that he shouldn’t owe the Matchroom Boxing promoter a dime. Instead, Paul claims he’s the one who deserves a big payday… and claims in the documents that he should be entitled to compensatory and punitive damages, in addition to legal fees.
Of course, the disagreement goes back to The Amanda Serrano vs Katie Taylor battle in April 2022 … a piece that KT won via split Decision.
Jake, through Most Valuable Promotions, represents Amanda… while Katie is Eddie’s fighter.
After the fight, Hearn took issue with Paul, claiming the judges had been paid. Ultimately, Hearn wrote in his lawsuit that Jake “made outrageously false and baseless allegations.”
As for Paul, he argues, “the defamation claim is dismissed because the challenged statements were expressions of opinion, hyperbole and/or humor.”
Paul also states that his comments did not cause “actual harm”… and that “any claimed harm is vague, uncertain, imaginary and/or speculative.”
Jake doesn’t dispute speaking his mind, but our sources are confident that when Eddie’s team reached out, Paul complied with their request to delete the interview in which he made the statement.
Still, Hearn continued with the lawsuit.
In short…people familiar with Jake’s mindset are confident that he won’t be intimidated into keeping his mouth shut, and that he’s moving full speed ahead with his countersuit.
