Jackie Chan Re -enacts ‘Enter the Dragon’ on Locarno

Jackie Chan again performed his role in Bruce Lee’s “Enter the Dragon” at the Locarno film festival of Switzerland.
Chan played a small role in the iconic film. In the past he admitted that Lee accidentally hit him during a scene with a stick – but that did not stop him from completing the Take.
“I’m not a superman. I’m scared,” he admitted. “For a stunt I go:” I’m going to die this time “?”
During a master class at the Swiss party, he spoke about his beginning.
“That’s a long, long story,” he said. “I was lazy, naughty, I didn’t want to study – that’s why my father sent me to Martial Arts School. I loved fighting when I was young. Later he asked:” Did you like the school? ” Yes, I could kick the teacher – whatever I wanted, “he joked.
Chan started as a stuntman and appeared in Lee’s “Fist of Fury”, before he finally switched to action after a few youth experiences on the set.
“I went:” Movies are great – I can have my own lunch box. “
The star delighted the audience with his animated presence, sometimes looking for their help to find the right words or titles. He also opened about his absent father, who sent him tires with the recordings of his voice. “If I listened to them now, I think I would cry.”
Ambitious, he wanted to learn filming all over again. “I would even set up my own make -up – I wanted to show the director that I am good enough.” After a while he decided to take over the tasks.
“I do everything – myself. Now I tell filmmakers:” If you only learn how to direct, that’s not good enough “.”
“The audience does not know about the rain or the producer, or that the budget has been cut. They just want a good movie. I always remember that, so I try to make every scene perfect. I think old films were better than [what we have] Today. Now, these big studios, they are not filmmakers – they are business boys. Nowadays it is very difficult to make a good film. ”
Later, Chan revived even more of his famous fighting scenes and forgot his microphone out of excitement. But he had to wait for his moment in the US.
“At that time I was the” king of Asia. ” I thought I was going to conquer America, so I went there and said: “I’m Jackie Chan. “Jackie what? Nobody knew me. She didn’t even care about my fighting skills. But I’m not Clint Eastwood! ”
“I said,” I’ll show you it. ” That is why I went back to Hong Kong to make ‘Police Story’.
After many disappointments, his manager asked him to try again.
“It was ‘rush hour’. He told me that I would play a police officer from Hong Kong, so I don’t have to speak perfect English. Perfect – [it was] The most important thing, “he laughed.” I think ‘rush hour’ has changed the culture. I wanted to be an intercultural bridge between China and the US, and now Switzerland. ‘
The most important thing is the script, he underlined – fight scenes come afterwards.
“We analyze the script to find out how to combine it with action, otherwise it is not logical. I see many American films, even Chinese films, and [the characters] Fight and then … they fly. Why? Because the first and second advertisement does not agree. So they are superheroes?! This kind of action makes me angry. “
He said, “At least my films are coherent.”
Chan added: “I always learn how to change.” Also not afraid of singing – “It’s easier than fighting” – he served the audience and admitted that he wanted to be versatile. “An actor who can fight”, and not just an action star.
“The life of Action Star is so short. How many of them are there? So 15 years ago I said I wanted to be Asian Robert de Niro,” he revealed.
“Only now they say:” Jackie is a good actor, “and that’s why you gave me this prize.”
Chan received Locarno’s Career Achievement Award on Saturday, the prestigious Pardo Alla Carriera, on Saturday.
“He literally reinvented what an action film is,” said artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro and called him a “true genius”. “There is before Jackie Chan and there is after that.”
Chan accepted the prize and remembered a conversation that he had with his father, when he asked him: “I am 60. Can you still fight if you are 60?” Chan replied: “I didn’t know what to say [to him]. But now I am 71 and I can still fight. “
