ITB Berlin 2026: 60 years as an international platform for tourism, markets and innovation

On the day before the start of ITB Berlin 2026, the global travel industry turns its attention to the German capital for three days. From March 3 to 5, on its sixtieth anniversary, the World’s Leading B2B Travel Trade Show will gather nearly 6,000 exhibitors from more than 160 countries, underscoring its role as the premier marketplace for international dialogue, economic prospects and strategic tourism issues of the future.

Since its launch in 1966, ITB Berlin has evolved from a small trade fair to a global industry platform in strategically important markets. The ITB portfolio now includes five events in Europe, Asia and the Americas, promoting international networking and business along the entire tourism value chain. The anniversary edition represents a form of tourism that combines growth, innovation and responsibility – it does not shy away from global issues and instead includes them in the dialogue. In light of current developments in the Middle East, ITB Berlin maintains a close dialogue with its international partners and exhibitors and continuously monitors the situation.

“For 60 years, ITB Berlin has been the place where the international travel industry comes together to understand markets, identify trends and do business. This is where partnerships are formed, contracts are negotiated and strategic alliances are forged. Especially in times of global challenges, we need platforms that combine economic strength, innovation and responsibility,” said Dr. Mario Tobias, CEO of Messe Berlin.

Global markets and strong buyer demand
ITB Berlin 2026 is fully booked and showcases the global diversity of travel markets. More than 160 countries are represented, including Thailand, Egypt, Turkey and Italy, the largest exhibitors at the fair. It gives trade visitors the opportunity to analyze markets, strengthen partnerships and generate new business ideas. Demand is especially high in Asia, Central Asia and North and South America.

Among its visitors, the ITB Buyers Circle gathers senior international buyers from 63 countries, approximately 43 percent of whom are attending for the first time – every year ITB Berlin creates new business opportunities and its appeal as a B2B platform grows. In addition to Buyers Circle members, thousands of other high-caliber decision makers use this opportunity to do business, network and engage in strategic discussions.

ITB Berlin/IPK International: Stable international travel in 2025 – South America with strong growth
According to IPK International’s World Travel Monitor®, global international travel will increase by four percent by 2025, continuing the positive trend of previous years. Regionally, performance figures varied: growth in Europe was average (+4%), while in North America it showed a slight decline (-1%). Asia showed moderate growth (+5%), while South America made progress with an increase of 11%, mainly thanks to intercontinental travel. Leisure travel remained the dominant market. They accounted for almost three quarters of all leisure trips, mainly sun and beach holidays, city trips, tours and country stays. Business travel and MICE travel recorded above-average growth (+6% and +8%). The average number of overnight stays increased to nine, while travel expenditure increased by 5%, most of which related to accommodation. Experts expect demand to remain stable in 2026, while issues such as overtourism and sustainability open up new opportunities for innovative destination strategies.
