If you have to watch 1 Hulu film in August, stream this underestimated thriller

Hulu has an abundance of wealth for film lovers in August, not even further than the regular influx of new titles.

Earlier this month, the streamer added one of the best horror titles of this year, The monkeyand the well -rated action comedy Copshop arrives on August 11.

Both are very good films, but the only Hulu film that you have to watch in August is Acute angleA psychological thriller from writer and director Jason Buxton Based on a short story through Russell Wangersky.

This film is different from the vast majority of the films, and watching with us shares the three reasons why you should watch Acute angle On Hulu.

‘Sharp Corner’ has a unique story

Ben Foster Stars in the film like Josh, a relatively successful family man who is married to Rachel (Cobie Smulders) and live with their son, Max (William Kosovic). After he moved to their dream house, the family discovers that it is in a sharp corner that is sensitive to fatal accidents. The first time it happens is irreparably crushed in their own home.

Josh’s reaction to the continuous accidents includes attempts around the corner to make both drivers and his family safer. However, he lets his obsession with crashes consume every awake hour. Nothing is more important for Josh than solving this problem or training to be ready to help potential victims of accidents. And it can cost Josh everything he appreciates in his life.

Ben Foster gives an Oscar-worthy performance

Foster wears Acute angle On his shoulders with one of the best turns of his career. It is too early to predict whether Foster Oscar Buzz will get, but there was a limited theatrical release earlier this year. In my opinion he deserves an Oscar nomination for his performance as Josh, who is alternately sympathetic and disturbing.

Josh can only partially articulate how bad he was damaged by the first two accidents in the house, and his wife will just not be busy with it. Much unrest from Josh and his subsequent obsession are quietly transmitted by Foster’s face and body language. Is Josh trying to regain his power by preparing for future accidents? Or does he suffer from untreated PTSD? The film largely leaves that are open to interpretation. But it does not present Josh’s behavior as heroic, especially in the film when he goes to some morally questionable extremes.

It is a slow-burn thriller with a great third act

Acute angle Can test the patience of some viewers, and it is not a conventional story. In some respects it reminds me of Night crawlerthe 2014 thriller with in the lead role Jake Gyllenhaal. The only action you see in this film is that the recurring car crashes and their aftermath. The real drama of this film is Josh’s internal unrest and the price he pays for placing his obsession about everything else in his life.

If you stay with the film, the third act rewards viewers with a beautifully realized tension while Josh is waiting for an accident with absolute certainty that it will happen. We are not going to spoil the specific details, but the end felt like the right choice for this film.

Acute angle now flows up Hulu.
