Hugh Grant cried while reading the script for the fourth ‘Bridget Jones’ film
Hugh Grant says he cried when he read the script Bridget Jones: Crazy about the boy.
Grant, 64, reprises his role as dastardly Daniel Cleaver in the fourth Bridget Jones film that will be released in theaters on Valentine’s Day 2025.
“I loved the script, it made me cry, and I wanted to help with this,” says the actor told Vanity fair in an interview published on Wednesday, September 11. “But actually Daniel Cleaver plays no role in it at all. They wanted him in, and in the end they did something I wasn’t crazy about.
Grant put on his screenwriter hat and “wrote some scenes” for that director Michael Morris approved and woven into the plot. Grant then signed up with Costar alongside Renee Zellweger, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Emma Thompson And Leo WoodallBridget’s rumored new love interest.
“There are people in my life who have always said, ‘Oh, that looks a lot more like the real Hugh,’” Grant said of Daniel, who seduces Bridget with his devilish charm in the first two films.
He had turned down an offer to appear in the third Bridget movie, 2016 Bridget Jones’ babynarrate Vanity fair“I really couldn’t fit into my character – he just didn’t fit in, so I stepped aside.”
But Grant was proud to participate Crazy about the boy. “It’s absolutely the best [Bridget Jones book]and I find it very funny and very, very moving,” he said. “I’m not around much, I worked for a week, that’s all. … But when you see the film, you will be very moved.

However, Crazy about the boy is based on the third novel from the Bridget Jones series, which begins with Bridget navigating dating life and being a single mother who — spoiler alert — follows Mark’s unexpected death.
It is unknown if Mark will suffer the same fate in the upcoming film. Firth, 64, was spotted filming with Zellweger this summer in photos and video obtained by The Daily Mail.
Fielding, 66, opened up about the decision to kill Mark in a 2013 interview about Todayrecalling that telling Firth about his character’s demise ‘was the hardest part’. She explained: “It was one of the strangest conversations of my life because I had to ask if he had anyone with him, if he was sitting, and it was literally like someone had actually died. Then we started laughing a little, because that wasn’t the case.”
