How Netflix’s building approached the band the death of judge Liam Payne

In a message prior to the first series of episodes, which premiered on Wednesday 9 July, host AJ McLean A statement issued about the shocking death of Payne.
“When we met to film the band, we never thought we would soon say goodbye to our friend Liam Payne,” said McLean, 47. “Liam is a guest judge in later episodes and because of his presence we see his deep love for music and his relentless dedication to help others find their voice.”
The message concluded: “It is because of that spirit that we devote this series to Liam and his family.”
Build the band Follows 50 singers while they form six bands, unseen and compete for the top position. Similar to Love is blindThe participants cannot see each other physically, so they trust the sound of their voices to become a coherent bond.
Filming for the competition show took place in the summer of 2024, with Payne and Kelly Rowland serve as guest judges while Nicole Scherzinger Was a judge and mentor. Months after production packed Build the bandPayne died in October 2024 at the age of 31 after he had fallen from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
“I had seen Liam in various things, but this was, as I said, spent the most quality time together. We do 12-to-14 hours for five weeks in a row, and he was just an absolute dream,” McLean said exclusively US Weekly In June of filming the show before the death of Payne. “We had very similar sense. He had the [drier] British humor, I had the American humor. ‘
McLean said it was “inspiring” to hear how Payne spoke with “all these different groups” in the show after his boy band started with One Direction Beside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan And Louis Tomlinson.
“He was so well read, articulated and very supportive and positive,” the Backstreet Boys singer shared about Payne. “He would clearly find a way to be – I don’t want to say strictly – but get his point in a very constructive way.”

McLean also remembered how he and Payne tied themselves about the “highlights and lows” of their respective austerity travel.
“I felt that in a certain sense we were almost divorced as artists. He was just an absolute dream to work with, to be honest,” he gushed. “I still have the very last conversation we’ve ever had. I didn’t delete it. I won’t do it.”
After hearing Payne’s death, McLean remembered how he called ‘ [his] Sponsor ”first.
‘All three of us [who were hosts and judges on the show] A bit tied together and talked a bit with each other, “he remembered.” We were a bit of that support for each other. “
The first four episodes of Build the band Are now on Netflix. New episodes will fall the next two weeks on Wednesday.
