How Angelina Jolie and son Knox help people during the LA fires
As wildfires continue to devastate the Los Angeles area, Angelina Jolie and her son Knox are doing what they can to help.
Jolie, 49, and Knox, 16, were spotted at the supermarket loading up on essential groceries, including water, according to a story published by the Daily mail on Friday, January 10.
“We have people at our house,” she said as she packed her suitcase in a video obtained by the outlet. When asked if she plans to donate to relief efforts, she replied, “Yes, I will, right now I’m taking care of people close to me and having them at my home.”
Knox is one of six children Jolie shares with her ex-husband Brad Pitt. The exes are also parents to sons Maddox, 23, and Pax, 21, and daughters Zahara, 20, Shiloh, 18, and Knox’s twin sister, Vivienne.
The wildfire crisis has been raging in the Los Angeles area since Tuesday, January 7, when high winds sparked fast-burning wildfires that continued to spread in an area that has not received significant rainfall in months.
As of Friday, January 10, 10 people have been killed, 9,000 buildings have been damaged and 150,000 people are under mandatory evacuation orders, according to the Los Angeles Times. Jolie’s $25 million Los Feliz home has remained outside evacuation zones.
Because of the locations of the fires, a slew of other celebrities haven’t been so lucky, many of whom live in the affluent Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles. Paris Hilton, Anna Faris, Heidi Montag And Spencer Pratt, Billy Crystal, Mel Gibson And Milo Ventimiglia are among the celebrities who have confirmed they have lost their homes.
“Sitting with my family, watching the news and seeing our house in Malibu burn down live on TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” Hilton wrote via Instagram on Wednesday. “We have built so many precious memories in this house. It is where Phoenix took its first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.”
Meanwhile, Jolie isn’t the only celebrity lending a helping hand. Jamie Lee Curtis announced Thursday that she is donating $1 million to relief efforts. Sharon Stone is teaming up with LA store The Coop to raise donations for the displaced, and Halle Berry said she is donating her “entire closet.”
General, CBS News reports that more than 200,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes, while another 166,000 people are under evacuation warnings.
