Google scrubs mentions of ‘diversity’ and ‘equity’ from responsible AI team webpage

Google has quietly updated the webpage For his responsible AI and Human Centered Technology (RAI-HCT) team, the team was responsible for conducting research into AI safety, fairness and explanatory, to scrub the mentions of “diversity” and “equality”.

An earlier version of the page used language such as ‘marginalized communities’, ‘diverse’, ‘under-represented groups’ and ‘equity’ to describe the work of the RAI-HCT team. That language has been removed, or in some cases replaced by less specific formulation (eg “all”, “varied” and “numerous” instead of “diverse”)

Google did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

The changes, which were noticed by Watchdog Group The Midas Project, come after Google has removed comparable language from the Startups Founders Fund Grant website. Google is one of the many major technology companies that have rolled back dei initiatives, because the Trump administration focuses on what it is characterized as a ‘illegal“Exercise.
