Google rolls out Android 16 to Pixel phones, unveils AI-powered edit suggestion for Google Photos

A day after Apple announced the overhaul of the operating system on WWDC 2025, Google launched its own set of large software upgrades for phones.
From Tuesday, a new release of Android 16 will be rolled out to Google’s Pixel-Smartphone-Line-up, by adding group chat to RCS, AI-driven editing suggestions to Google Photos and support for Company Badges in Google Wallet. The release also focuses on better support for accessibility and improved adjustment for messages and contacts.
Separately from Android 16, Google also announced upgrades as part of its regular function -updates for eligible pixel telephones, “Pixel Drop”.
Android 16 Improvements
Android 16 now contains live reports in iOS style on the lock screen for real-time updates and Google’s new material 3 Expressive design language. There are new possibilities for protecting theft and scams, together with an updated advanced protection mode to maintain safety and privacy for public figures.

Android 16 also adds support for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio devices, so that you can use them instead of the microphone of your phone for a better call quality. You can also control the volume on your device from your phone with new native controls.

Later this year, Android 16 will receive support in Desktop-Style Windowing support on Android tablets, says Google. The company is also planning to introduce tailor -made shortcut keys to determine your actions for finding an app through your own combination of shortcuts.
For Android 16 and others supported Android releases, Google rolls out an update to Google reports that RCS Group Chat supports support. You can select adjusted icons and stupid notifications for specific chats for a certain period.
Android 16 also brings HDR -Screenshots, adaptive refresh speed and forced grouping for reports to reduce junk in the reporting drawer.

Google Photos has a series of new functions in Android 16 and other supported releases. Soon the app can propose to edit tools, such as deleting, moving or “re -inserting” for parts of an image.
Other Android 16 improvements are the possibility to pay favorite devices in the Google Home app and support for public transport with Google Wallet on Wear OS devices, so you don’t have to remove your phone.
Pixel June Functions
In addition to the new version of Android 16, Google is rolling out its latest set of monthly Pixel function -upgrades.
With a new “Pixel VIPS” widget you can view interactions with favorites in your contact list. It shows you your latest calls and messages with the person, including everything you have received from WhatsApp, and updates such as birthday and location if the contact has chooses to share them.

Pixel -Phones also receive more detailed captions for video content, including live streams. You will see captions that describe whether someone is yawning, yawning or scraping his throat.

Elsewhere you can create custom stickers using text prompts directly from the GBOard keyboard from Google. Google adds support for AI-driven summaries in French and German to the Recorder app. And users in Australia get the Emergency SOS Satellite connectivity function from Android.

Google adds a battery health indicator for users with the Pixel 8A and newer pixel devices (but not the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro), and Pixel 5 and later devices get a new accessibility function via the magnifying glass app. You can use the magnifying glass to describe what you are looking for, and the app will mark the item if there is a match and you give feedback via Haptics.
Users of Enterprise Android also receive updates, including the opportunity to store their company badges in Google Wallet. Moreover, they can use the Gemini Chatbot -app from Google in the Google Docs app on Android to summarize content, gain insights and translate text. Finally, Google Chrome improves on Android’s handling of PDFs with linked document display.
The Pixel drop updates from June are starting to roll out on Tuesday.
